I have a 1980 300SD (W116), and know that the engine and parts are compatible with a 1978 300SD, and a 1979 300SD. All basically the same car.

But are the parts also compatible with other models? For example, 1981 to 1985 300SD (W126)? Or 1980 to 1985 300TD (Estate Wagon)?

The engine is virturally identical to the W123 300D from 82-85 that used the OM617 engine. From what I can tell (I just got mine) the diff is the same as the W123. The transmission is different. The steering box is the same as W123 Some of the suspension parts are W123 and some are W126 and some are just W116 I THINK.
