Valve Adjustment tools 240D?

Are the special bent wrenches necessary an a 240D? All the threads mention that it's hard to get to #5 cylinder. My 240 is like all the others, only goes to #4

You can get by with ordinary wrenches. The job is a lot easier with the bent wrenches.

Its way easier with the Hazet 3 piece set. Look on E-bay they can be had for under $60 new. If you are a masocist use regular 14mm Thin wrenches,

What is the third wrench for in the Hazet set??

curious as I am going to bend some 14mms myself... anyone have bending specs and do I need the third wrench?

thanks

The third wrench is a valve spring retainer. It simly goes on the valve spring to keep it from rotating when your adjusting the valves.

I have used both the Hazet set and 14 mm wrenches

While I found it relatively easy to use the straight 14 mm wrenches(only two) the new Hazet set I just acquired are a dream come true. Spend the money on the correct wrenches. You will be glad you did. ;)

This job is already " hands " intensive... three being the minimum fun number... I bent my own Craftsman wrenches (pictures in archives under ' bent wrenches' using my name) , thinned the lower of those two.... but bought the bottom wrench... could not make it... the proper one has a little ' stand' which holds the wrench in place for your third hand... that wrench really comes in handy if the adjusting nuts are stuck... only three out of 10 on my car needed it ..... but they really needed it... so I was happy I had it.
