Ignition Switch Replacement 81 300SD

I bought a 81 300sd that has had the ignition tumbler replaced with the kind from the w123 and need to switch it back to the original one. I already have the part from the dealer with the high security key cut to my car. If i put the new one in the tumbler wont turn far enough to crank the car. If I have them side by side I can clearly see that the one that came with the car turns farther even though it feels like it shouldnt. I was told that the actual iginition switch must be replaced. I have this part also but have no idea how to replace it. Anyone have any guides or useful info that I could use?

Thanks,
Aaron

No replies? Should I post this in the diesel discussion forum?

I have no experience with the SD body or ignition. However, this guide I am working on for the 123 body might be of help.

I don't understand why it isn't working. I have done this maybe a hundred times. In fact I have an 82 right now where the original key was starting to stick, so I stuck a 123 tumbler in there til I can order one coded to the car. There are two possible tumblers, but one is long and one is short. That combination won't work.

Ok, I got to the point where it says to loosen the clamp on the column. I'm stuck where it says to push the button on the steering column...? These instructions are missing several pictures and the description isn't very clear. Someone please HELP! I have the car all apart and need to move it before the morning.

I was hoping just to replace the ignition switch since 2 MB mechanics told me that is what it was. I told them i thought it was the assembly. Sure enough the shaft that turns the ignition switch came out in pieces. I am trying to remove the assembly from the steering column. I'm following the instructions from the link above. (scroll up) They are for a 123 but from what i've been told the assemblies are similar. I got the switch off and the clamp loose but it still wont come out. There is a little play in it now and i can wiggle it in and out but there is clearly something stopping it behind the clamp and i'm assuming it's this "button" that I can't see anywhere.

Sorry. I haven't managed to get a good picutre of that yet. Here is a very blurry out of focus one.

Its a little button that should be right next to the clamp on the column.
