Electrical gremlin

Have a 95 E300D. With the light switch engaged I have low beams, hit the stalk for brights and nothing - lights out. All fuses OK, bulbs look OK. No blue light on the dash either, anyone had this prob with the 124 body veh?

"All fuses OK, bulbs look OK. No blue light on the dash either..."

Try an obvious, and simple check.

Pull the stalk back to flash the high beams. Do you get high beam and blue light on dash? If so, fuses, bulbs and blue light are OK, which leaves a bad switch contact in the mult-function stalk.

If no flash, it's time to re-check for power to the fuse(s), out of the fuse(s) and at the bulbs. A voltmeter would be helpful.

Take your time, double check, replace only the broken parts.

Best Regards,
Jim

Jim, Thanks for the response. I found a thread on the tech page refering to this issue. Simply dirty contacs - removed the small stalk cover plate and used compressed air and a bit of wd40 to clean them. Worked the stalk a bit and we have high beams.

That's great news!

Out of curiosity, was it only the Hi/Lo contact? Were you able to flash the Hi beams but not turn them on?

Best Regards,
Jim

Jim, The flasher does not work either. I messed with the switch quite a bit and got the high's to come on for a bit but it is irregular at best. It is obviously in the stalk itself. Have you had the same issue?

No, I never had such a problem, I'm playing with logic here. Sometimes it's like playing with fire.

I just wondered if you had flash, but not steady, and I assume that there are two separate contacts on the stalk, one for flash and one for steady, since they're in opposite directions.

More significantly for my logic, if you could flash the hi beams but no keep them on steady, there would be nothing wrong with the fuse, wire or bulbs, so that would leave a switch problem.

Best of luck, and Best Regards,
Jim
