What do you do with a shell of a car ? and the frame ?

Hey..

Well I'll be done parting the car sooner or later. I plan to leave the whole suspension (rusty), frame and shell of the car on wheels. Once I hit that stage what do you do next ? Who picks the car up ? How much does it cost ?

Any suggestions are greately appreciated.

Thank You

Someone here may want it.
Theirs may be in worse shape.
Last I checked, the steel is worth roughly $50.00 USD.

your city

Most cities code enforcement officers can have it picked up from your front for free it does not Evan have to have wheels, junkyard wont take it if it is missing any parts the car donation places wont take it. the scrap metal companies wont take it but the city spends tons of time begging pleading threatening people to give up there blighted old cars there usually over joyed when some one calls to get rid of blight but if your doing it for the fifth time this year they get ticked don’t ask how I know.

:sun_smile Why not put it on ebay ? You know the script. This baby's good for a million miles..Best car on fuel offered on ebay. No one smokes in this 240d and it does not either. Cannot hear engine run. Just completed 1200 mile trip in last month or so. No transmission problem.. Owner has had everything apart. This car is just wonderful. Not the slightest crack or blemish visible on dash pad. Does not have any oil leaks. Will only ship no pickups. All records in trunk. (gets rid of your old 33rpm vinyl disks as well) etc.etc.

Kamil, forgot the no dissapointments here line. But seriously have enjoyed watching your threads and hope your vending has and will be succesful. Also that my bizzare humour has not had any negative effects as really appreciate your introducing me to this forum. Feel so much guilt, guess may bid on one or two of your items yet. The transmission conversion that your doing should go pretty well. Think will start thread in next day or so on various ways I tackle certain problems that are common especially with older gas models. Best of luck, barry. (had a few engine balance concerns about changing auto to standard but all questions answered by this forum) :sun_smile

The local car crusher in my area pays $80 per ton. They will not accept a car with glass or a fuel tank.

2 things

1) south of cinti there is an MB-only junkyard, I'd give that guy a call first if it were me (and you were near cincinnati), look for one near you ? When I had a 300D w/ a seized engine he came and picked it up for free...

2) If you hit the yellow pages long enough, you will probably find a scrap yard that will send a wrecker out to pick it up (for free also). you might have to do a lot of calling, but its worth the free service.

Kamil,

In Binghamton NY there is a U-pull it that buys cars by their weight, any condition. If there's nothing left, as in your case, they just put it in the crusher and recycle the steel.

There is also a scrap metal recycler there that buys cars or almost any kind of scrap metal. You tow it in and they weigh it and pay accoringly. All you have to remove is the tires.

Look in the Yellow pages for scrap metal recyclers.
