5 speed and engine swap

Hi

I have a 1969 220D with (year unknown) 300TD and 5 speed The car is very tired and has some title isues ( I have bill of sale but seller is unavailable for further contact) I asked earlier if someone knows this car, it was in Solono CA and has an Air / Water intercooler. ( I figure that if someone has seen THAT they would remember) The PO did not build it .

Anyway I am looking at a 82 240/300NA with 4 speed that needs an engine. what parts from the 240 4 speed will I need for the 5 speed? or vice versa .

OH ! anyone in the Bay area northern CA that could/would do the swap?

Chuck

if you found this car in boyes hot springs i know this car. white w115 with trashed/ missing interior.
i believe the engine is from a w116, i dont remember it having any emission
controls.
the only engine/drivetrain parts out of the the 240 you want are the clutch assembly, the throttle controls and the rear half of the driveshaft. you will want to trade out the differenial. if you do put it into a w123 and you want p/s and a/c, you will need to change those out and replace the oil filter to its original spot.
that car was set up as a racer and i think got a lot of use. the clutch is worn down. i'm guessing the steel contraption on the passenger firewall with a schrader valve is a propane/ nitro injector.
because the engine oil filter has already been adapted to a 115, you might want to look for a good body w114,115. it would be a better car.
to remove the engine/tranny from this car dont pull it. undo the subframe (4 bolts) and lift the body up.
the men who built that car knew whst they were doing and were excellent craftmen.

w115 racer ?

Well Don

Thanks for the information - I am new to the nuances of MBZ modles you mentioned the 115 that I have what is a 114 or the 116 the engine ( five cyl) may have came from?

Any idea when and for what kind of racing it was built for?- is there a class where they are scored like golf - slowest time wins? There is not a large tank installed so it was not endurance no safty gear I am puzzled- at first it looked like somthing from the Pan AM Ralley days.

Hard to figure the engine starts easly runs kind of rough - it has not seen the road in awhile though very litle smoke - none in daylight . tail pipe very sooty but dry . oil looks -very old I wont run it till I change that .

and I will have to clean it and take some pics of the things under the hood we can play guessing games.

A wagon is a TD -dt is bad slang for diesel, turbo. Not an official term, but generally accepted- can be confusing as you just proved.

That 5 speed won't fit, in fact it won't fit anything you have. I'll be a nice guy and take it off your hands for $50.....I'll even pay for shipping...

That is a ramificator. Like layovers to catch meddlers. Honestly I don't recognize that contraption.
I remember I called a boy in Sonoma (or was it Solono?) about that car when it was for sale. I think it was listed in Craigslist. He didn't know what he had and I didn't want a divorce so I passed on it :p
Please send more pictures though

Mor stuff

Yes I think there would have been a devorce if any one had seen that heap.

Lots of oil everywhere -that shiny stuf on the guages is oil its all over the place.

Notlostmaybe thought it was some kind of racer but what kind?

Turbo spools up I have to start checking if it is producing pressure - the guage in dash does not seem to work . Pyro does though.

the aiw /water intercooler may or may not do anything time will tell.

IT took me awhile to figure the start drill since no glow plug lights work .

and the start circut timer ( laugh) is a ford start solonoid .

Just what should the voltage to GP's be? Mine is 12v direct through the solonoid.

Nice use of 1/4 in swivels ( unless this is stock) in the throttle linkage

IF there are other pics someone might like just ask.
