How did I over fill the transmission?
Just changed the transmission filter and fluid. owners manual says 6.6 qt of atf for a fluid change. I put in six quarts, started the car, put it in drive (it is on jackstands) then checked the fluid... Way overfilled?? and leaking fluid from the tailshaft I think..
so should I Just pull the drain plug, and let some out? How did I manage to mess this up? Jason |
It sounds like to total capacity listed includes the torque converter. You actuall need to spin the TC around and remove another plug (forgot size) to drain the TC.
If you want all new fluid - then another drain, including TC, and fill would be required. Stephen |
And when you fill it, you put about half in, start the car to get it to the torque converter and then add the rest until it is topped up.

Also, fluid must be hot to finish topping off. Drive it for 1/2 hour or so, then come back and check the level. Plenty of info on this topic using search. Cheers, Bill |
