Turbo Performance Kit

Offered on Ebay..."MERCEDES 300SD 300D TURBO PERFORMANCE INTAKE KIT." Does anybody have any experience with this kind of kit?

Thanks for your opinion,

It going to be noisier, and the K&N filters do not filter as well as factory filters. And it also seems a little strange to attempt to soop up the 617 engine -- You'll never even break into the 17s (1/4 mile), even if you max out your alda. I can't imagine you would get more than 2 or 3 hp gain with the kit.

It's going to sound healthier... that's about it...

The stock Benzo stuff is very efficient.

I bought one. Was not impressed. The filter was a cheap import, the oil separator was made of two PVC pipe caps glued together, and there was no provision to securely fasten the oil separator to the drain tube. To top that off, it would not work in my car due to the way the a/c hose was routed. The seller acknowledged that that was sometimes a problem. But he refused to take the kit back, even though it was in new condition. His attitude was "you bought it, it's your problem."

Bottom line: the "cold air" concept is nothing but hype, the kit is junk, and the seller will not stand behind his product.

Do you still have yours? If so, how much would you want for it?

I could care less about the "performance" aspect of it; I just want to get rid of the stock air cleaner...getting sick of breaking brackets and mounts :(

Thanks!

Sorry. Sold it on ebay for about what I paid for it. I was tired of breaking the air cleaner shock mounts, too. But they started lasting a lot longer once I replaced the idle governor pin and got rid of the engine shake.

Anyone interested, I pulled a Mercedes remote oil separator from an older 240D at the yard a while back. This would work a lot better than the jury-rigged setups with pipe. Email me.

They are >$100 at the dealer, so a junkyard part is really the only option.

I made my own near what this guy is selling, you can get the 'K+N type filter' at any Auto Parts 'R' Us store. I made my own catch can out of the excess aluminum pipe that I cut off for it to fit. Just curious though.. how much you want for that oil separator?? ^ ?

I purchased the kit he has availalbe similiar to this one, but it is the stage 2 kit. I was actually impressed with the kit. I think that he did an excellent job assembling the kit. I realize that I probably could have made myself, but I tried once and it didn't turn out very well. There was definently an increased throttle response, although additional horsepower as he advertised is doubtful. The oil separtor on my kit sat tightly in the oil return hose, so I do not know why it would need to be secured any further. You can hear the turbo spool up, which is kinda cool to me.

If you really want a HP increase, you should put an Intercooler in

I started work on mine recently, I was using a Intercooler form a Volvo 940. After that its a lot of Turbo plumbing. The nice thing is a lot of the hoses from the Volvo are reusable, I got tons of them from the Junkyard and was suprised by clever use of PVC adapters from Home Depot everything fits into place.
I got everything cut and ready...but then I dropped the Project..the reason is I think I would rather keep my 85 300D "stock" and vintage, because its in very good shape and could be a classic someday, and also all that plumbing makes the car hard to fix should I break down 500 miles from home..why make a great Draft horse into a dragger?

I am contemplating of modding my 87 300D , but I like to keep my older cars "stock" and classic..

I'd personally stay away from intake kits like that, since they don't really do much, and since the guy is just reselling something he picked at the import store for $50 and just added an oil seperator.

A good kit would have a heat sheild, and would be custom bent for the vehicle, which would give some noticible improvements in HP and MPG...

Would you happen to have a picture of your tubing setup? I also have the same volvo intercooler+plumbing, I just cant get myself the time/energy to figure it out and install it in my TD.

I also have an Audi 5000 intercooler that I've been thinking how to install in Honeycomb, Ridge Style so that I my keep the working A/C complete.

Was going to put the separator up for sale in the parts forum, nut sure what it's worth, but I had a hard time finding one when I was looking and needed one. Must be worth MILLIONS!!!!! OK, maybe not.., but...., email me with an offer I can refuse :-)
