A great site! Especially for someone who likes to tinker. My mind went into orbit thinking of the possibilities. The engine and the supercooler peaked my interest.

A note about the photo: 100 hp being held in the air by 2 people and only 4 cylinders.

The engines 'Billzilla' talks about are called OPs or opposed piston. The American company Fairbankc-Morse and then Colt (I don't know if they are the firearms people but they are called United Technologies now) used to make them to power submarines. Later they were adapted to run railroad engines. I worked for a oilfield supply boat company in Dubai that had 5 boats powered with these engines. They had 10 cylinders and 20 pistons. They were extreemly relyable. If you had trouble with a cylinder you could just shut off the fuel to that injector and keep on trucking, or boating as it were. Given that they had one crankshaft on the top and one in the bilge they were not particularly easy to over haul but they were definately good engines.
