Seriously, if you are going to store it for a long time I would not mount it on an engine stand. Engine stands are meant for putting the engine at a good working height and allowing rotation of engine. Remember, it WILL NOT fall off the floor. All my heavy stuff is on the floor.

I did this move one time with a complete V-8 hanging on a engine stand and loosened the holding bolt to slowly turn it over and WHAM it met the floor a lot quicker than I wanted it to...
Luckily my toes are still all intact!
Be careful...try to balance it along a longitudinal axis of weight and turn SLOWLY..
all else fails...spring out of the way :D

Pay close attention to this. I used an engine stand for my 617.952 rated 1000lbs, but no matter how I adjusted the plate, I could not get the center of mass close to the rotational axis of the stand. I attempted to rotate the engine down, and needed a hoist to get it vertical again -- I never had the nerve to let it rotate to 180.

Engine Storage:

If you are storing the engine.
Clean it!
Fix what you want.
Then go to a shipping store. And buy plastic wrap.
WD40 or better spray oil the engine, then plastic wrap it. Leaving hole to crank, so you can turn it over ever six month's.
Then build a wooden crate with 4x4 skids, and store it on the ground or a strong rack.
