How the heck do you remove the ignition lock from a w123 ?

I was trying to take out the ignition lock/cylinder from a 240D. I can't seem to grasp how the thing works or how it comes out. Any suggestions ?

Thank You

Do a search, there have been lots of other threads on this.

If I remember correctly, you have to turn the key to the #2 position and then there is a small button you have to push in on the ignition/lock assembly under the dash in order to completely free up the steering wheel lock. Then you unplug the electric connector and do some awkward twisting and turning and swearing until it finally comes out.

Your recollection is correct, especially about the swearing.

As long as you have the key and can turn the ignition to the correct position, then you are ok. If you don't have the key or you can turn it, then you're most likely looking at a big expense as the whole assembly needs to be replaced.

I got it out. I sat there for about an hour in the morning trying to figure out how to take it out. It was so simple thanks to you guys. I was not turning the key to the second position but once I did it just popped right out.

Thanks !!!
