:confused: I've heard a lot about this engine not being too good--nick named the rod bender--mercedes didnt produce it but one or maybe two years--heres my delima:::i have had mine for about 6-8 months now---no problems at all--then a deer and i collide---insurance co wants to total the car for a "reasonable amount"--but i CAN have it repaired if i desire too.[frame not bent]

car now has about 144,000 miles on it--only added 1 quart of oil during this period.

any advice would be appreciated--need info asap so that i can tell insurance co which way to go.

What year is it?

I take it you mean 1 qt between changes...

Since you have 144k on the clock I woud surmise that yours is one of the good ones. I THINK I have one of the good ones also. Uses only 0-0.5 qts between changes...

Get it fixed, go for it...

thanks guys--having the car repaired--too good to "junk"--hard to find a good car anymore--will keep all informed as to my experience with this engine.
