Engine ID

Hi

when I get my 300 out where do I find the ID# ? ( I have no idea of it's year).

and are MBZ cars like Unimogs in that you have to have the ID#'s to order parts?

Thanks

Chuck

On the OM61x engines it is found near the oil filter (on ythe block)

right, on the very top of the block, next to the head, stamped into a machined surface

Just about anything you're going to order can be done using the vehicle's VIN. I've never needed to know an engine number.

Of course, if the engine has been swapped then all bets are off. ;)

When you are ordering hard parts for the engines you may need that number... most things on our engines have three incarnations.... and sometimes when one changes then when the stuff next to it is replaced you will need the upgraded one...
I am thinking of things like Cams, followers, etc....

If you're ordering from anyone who has an EPC, they enter the VIN and it knows the engine number.

Its engine is not the original either.<laugh>
