Diesel Fungus

My 1978 240D won't start. I had blackish specks in my fuel filter. I took out the screen in the tank and it was cruded ; cleaned and reinstalled the screen and put in a new o-ring. Replaced both fuel filters. Put BioBor in the fuel. Still won't start. How does fungus stop the car from running? I saw on the bottle of BioBor a note about for best results wait 2 or 3 days. Is there black specks clogging my IP and or injectors? How long should I give the Biobor to work?
Thanks,
Dan

Black specs will never get to the IP or Injectors, You have the primary and secondary filters to catch them......they will clog so carry several spares and tools to change them. I would use Biobor at least the next 4 tankfulls, and every 2 for the next year....

I still don't understand why fungus will cause a diesel not to start then. If the car won't start I'll never use a tank of fuel.

You probably clogged your filters and the fuel flow was blocked. When you opened the fuel lines to check screens and replace filters you got air in the lines. When you can restore fuel flow and purge the air out of the system, you will likely be running if you don't have other problems.

Did you pump the heck out of the primer after changing the filters? Do you have the old style (screw down handle) primer pump? If so, does it leak? If it leaks fuel out, then it leaks air in. More than one car has changed hands because of a leaking primer pump preventing starting.

When the fungus breeds in the water/diesel interface, they produce strings of slime. Biobor kills the critters, but their slimy bodies get sucked up into the fuel system and clog filters. They can't get by the filters, so the injectors shouldn't be affected.

Sounds like you just need to get the air out of the lines, or you got lots more critters.

When I change filters I always fill the new ones with fresh fuel; it saves a lot of pumping-in fact I don't pump at all. I've had plenty of practice, especially with the pre-filter, as I've been getting a lot of black flaky particles there. I'm burning 90% WVO filtered to 0.5 micron and 10% RUG.

Just a thought, but also check and make sure the tank vent is clear. The simplest way to check is leave the fuel cap off. If it then starts or runs better, chances are the vent line is clogged.

Look at RAYMOND485's posting history. Since he joined in 2005 all he does is make useless 2 line posts to randomly selected very old dead threads.

Hmm similar to what whunter does.
perhaps he's searching for information on something wrong on his car and this is his way of helping out the forum.
oh, and I found a 5 line answer on one of his threads...
they're always caps though... kinda annoying.

whunter brings up topics that help people he is working with or that would help many people. Raymond just makes very short responses to threads that have usually been, like this one, long ago resolved or dropped.
