what did i touch??

working under the intake trying to get the block heater. tried to get my adjustable on it to determine the size of the nut. snap! double flash!! pull wrench back. later battery died. got a jump. took it out and drove. parked it. got back in and it started. went to leave tonite and it is dead again.

what went snap flash? no i didn't disconnect the battery. (lesson one.)

is the starter still alive when the motor is not running? thats all i can guess.

Ouch

The starter leads.
You toasted the wire from starter to alternator, at a guess. :(

i really have to say you folks(carrameow comes to mind) who work on cars outside in all weather have my respect. After pulling the glow plug relay and rechecking the fuses and the sears junket i finally took the car to the indy who announced that the low charging was a result of a bad regulator that he just happend to have on the shelf. well that was great. on the way home the heater core steamed me out.

i really don't wonder why my check book is blue. i know why and i ain't driving it right now.

so finally.......

i stopped by the shop and was told replacing the core was about an 18 hour job. i don't know if thats true but that would almost meet the price i paid for the car. i went back to the lot with a can of eagle brand stop leak for cooling systems. followed the instructions and i think the heater core has stopped leaking. either that or the cold i have filters the odor from me.

we will see......

I'm a little lost. The thread started about shorting from the hot to the block and now there is apparantly a leaking heater core.

whunter already addressed the likely electrical problem, so I'll tackle the heater core.

I had this happen a number of years ago on a 123 car and did not want to even think about pulling the dash. What I did was use an old aux pump (you could use anything that would pump warm water) and heated up a bucket of water and bars leaks. I then rigged up hoses and circulated this concoction into the heater core with the return hose going back in the bucket. I then filled the cooling system with 50% antifreeze and ran the thing a few more hundread thousand miles with no problems.

You could just put bars leaks in the radiator, but I did not want to risk plugging up the radiator given my summer climate.

Good luck and Merry Christmas,

Stop leak and block seal are bad for the motor and radiator. Larry's solution is much better than running it through the entire cooling system if you're determined to use it anyway.

ummmmm

i already did.

yes larry it started in one place and just meandered around. the car seems fine after driving it the last couple of days.

if the core happens again i know which thread to pull up.
