Palangi's Head
Paul,
What was the outcome on your 240's head? Randy |
As of Wednesday, the head was in the final steps of the torquing process. I will check on it next week.
|
Paul, Are you using the ' 10 days' between torqueing steps instead of the ' 10 minutes' resting period ? That should be a really relaxed engine when you get it going....
LOL |
Is this the Euro that has the head off? I must have missed the thread. What happened to it to need the head pulled?
|
Brian, we have been trying to keep that secret from you so I am not allowed to tell you... LOL

I'm curious as I was fighting a randomly occuring cooling issue with that car with no luck whatsoever. It was part of what played into my decision to let the car go. Palangi knew about the issue when he bought it, and when he finally found a sticky injector, I had figured that it was the cause of the cooling problem. I replaced the radiator, water pump, thermostat, flushed, washed, and totally replaced the coolant (all kinds of crap came out with this), pop tested the injectors, new belts, pressure tested cooling system, ran car with cap off to look for air bubbling in coolant, and put a new radiator cap on it, all to no avail. It had gotten to the point where 5th gear in that car was all but useless in highway driving. |
I have no information about this... I was just playing with you... only after I posted did I remember that this might have been your EX car... LOL
The one you sold me is still running like a bat out of Hell... loves to do 75.. went to Temple and back a couple of times last week..... thermo dead on 80C... and heater works like a charm... still have not addressed the AC... but it will never be able to match my Ford pickup AC.... so there was no rush... |
Brian
Most of the phantom overheating was fixed by replacing the negative battery cable. It was corroded inside the jacket. Replacing that fixed the temp twitching. It had been running good, except for a stubborn algae problem, then one day I started it up, and a big cloud of steam came out. I had sent in an oil analysis a few weeks earlier, which came back showing antifreeze in the oil, so it wasn't really a surprise when it let go. When we pulled it apart, we found some cracks in the head and evidence of a longtime slow coolant leak path in the headgasket. http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/106069-oil-analysis-result.html Also, when we had the head off, we found one prechamber is different from the other 3. Not sure what that's about. I need to dig up the pictures of that and post them. |
Paul, that is strange... the manual is very stern about the precombustion chamber style matching the piston style hole.... any chance it had one piston not matching the other three ? From a partial rebuild maybe ?

Wow, it looks like something that was definitely above my abilities to fix. I'm thrilled to see that you found it's ills, and she'll be back on the road again soon, probably running like the preverbial swiss watch. :D
Speaking of fixing things, I need to get back to work on the 300D. I definitely cannot whine about the heat, or use weekends spent riding everywhere on the Goldwing as an excuse anymore. |

Stern FSM.....
Yes, but on this we are talking Interference 'fitting' of the piston top to the precombustion chamber bottom.. and I am not sure which would win out... |
Greg
Pistons all seem to be the same and in good condition. I don't believe the engine has ever been apart before. Three prechambers are sorta rounded and one is sorta flat on the bottom. No way to know how many miles on it for sure. |
