I would've thought all filling stations would have converted to #1 Diesel by now, but not so! I had filled Pearl's tank the week before last at a smaller station on a secondary route, and two nights ago, our night temperature went a bit below 20 F, and has remained below freezing ever since. I started her up yesterday morning and got about 5 seconds of running, then the engine stopped cold. Tried several re-starts, but no go! after 3 or 4 tries, there was absolutely no smoke or fumes out the tailpipe. Seems that Pearl is a victim of late selling of summer fuel!
Tomorrow is the day slated for Pearl to go into the barn anyway, so now I'll simply wait for a day above freezing- (yes, we'll still get a few). Even with an increase in temperature, I suspect I'll still have to try and empty some #2 out of the fuel filter and put in some kerosene, and maybe heat up the IP and injector lines with a heat gun to ensure a sure-start for her short trip up the ramps into her winter home.
Noticed one thing for sure- with absolutely no fire hapening while cranking, I am convinced Pearl will need a new starter. Having made sure the battery is fully charged, the starter definately is spinning too slow. On a previous thread I learned that the best way to go is to get a new heavy duty 300D Turbo Diesel starter. The month of May can't come too soon!
