No more new tools than usual. I've been collecting tools for about 40 years and it's an ongoing thing.
Most all of my English tools are Snap On, and in the early days I had a few cheap metric tools. By the time I started having a more serious need for metric tools, Snap On tools were priced beyond the reach of mortal man. So, my metrics are various including Craftsman polished end wrenches and sockets. Some of the other metrics are Matco. If I bought very many new tools, even the new box wouldn't be big enough. Your fortunate Larry. Like my father, he has a huge Snap-On tool box, that I think you need a step ladder to get up into, full of Snap-On Tools. Expensive tools but reliable.
I remember as I was growing up seeing that Snap-On driver pull up in his van an unload on the mechanics like a taco truck delivering breakfast in the mornings. I always thought they made alot of money. I think at one time they did, but with everyone, such as Matco and others, the market has shrunk. They always were able to replace broken tools, but I think there competitors do the same now. |

All of the tool truck brands and most all tools that are anywhere close to name brand are lifetime replacement. Many people think that this is done only by Snap On and Sears. All of the trucks do it and most any store you go in whether auto supply, hardware or chain store have lifetime warranty.
The problem with many of the lifetime warranty tools that are not common brands is finding where to take it back to. The Snap On, or even the MAC and Matco truck is pretty easy to track down, and, of course, everyone knows where the Sears store is. Snap On, IMHO, STILL makes THE BEST tools on the planet. That said, with many things, the BEST is not always linear on the pricing scale. What I mean by that is that it might cost $30 for a darn good widget that on the quality scale might be a seven, while the very best, that might be the perfect ten on the quality scale costs $100. That's true with many things. As far as Snap On tools, one could make a pretty good argument that "a wrench is a wrench" and that would be true within some limits. There's not a whole lot of difference between a MAC and a Snap On combination wrench except the way they look. A Craftsman combination wrench is bulky, and the open end is thicker, making it difficult to get into some spots, but it is not a 2 on a scale of 10 as compared to the Snap On perfect 10 IMHO. Also, the super cheapy tools are getting WAY better than they used to be. Used to a super cheapy wrench would bend or break. Not so now days. Some of them are pretty darn good. My $0.02, |

I got my christmas present early as well.
A big old craftsman toolbox and a 200 something piece tool set. I've been using a bunch of mismatched crap, always looking for the right tool but now I have pretty much everything, and if I don't have it, it will be added to the collection over time. I also got some new jackstands and a 3 ton jack

It was $15 for a 15 piece metric set. Besides beng 12pt, the wrenches are perfect. A wright set, or a williams se would of cost upwards of a hundered.

I bought this in April 2005 from Costco - it's a nice quality stainless cabinet. The current batch of toolboxes there don't seem as nice as this one.
