The rear seat of my 300SD was extremely clean... nothing in it at all.

The rear seat of my 500SEL was full of children's toys, dirt, junk, some gas receipts (looks like a bundle fell in there) and millions of candy wrappers.

Hmmm...when I was recently taking my donor car apart I found a whole lot of peanut shells. They were virtually everywhere, even behind the dash. I also found some in the shifter mechanism. Under the rear seat I found nothing but a "penny."

I'm tempted to leave whatever change is under the seat where it is, in case there's an emergency and I really need a quarter or a nickel.

Funny, I just did this yesterday for the first time on my 300SDL. Was hoping to find a bag of money so I could keep up with the repairs. I found an audio tape, two pens, misc. garbage, and then finally a quarter. Oh well, I am sure there is an 25 cent O-Ring somewhere that needs replacing.

a laminated card called "Prayer Evangelism Strategic Path for Reaching America" which included a detailed graphic 4 year plan that apparently started in dallas texas in 1998 and ended with "celebrations of unity at state capitols across the nation".

i asked myself "well, did they reach America?" and then i remembered who was president.....

my father bought a mazda pickup back in the late 80s and found $2000 in cash underneath the carpet while vacuuming! but returned it to the PO. he was a construction contractor and apparently needed to keep cash on hand. cant remember if my father got a reward but he sure did have an impressed son.

Bought mine from a small mom and pop dealership. Hmm, this is strange. There wasn't anything under the rear seat. However, I spent 8 hours one Saturday cleaning the carpet and velour seats of spilled Cokes!

Most of the cars I removed the rear seat on, I found bits of change and maybe some candy. When I removed the rear seat on my old '76 240D, I found a pile of what looked a lot like crushed brown Rice Chex. The seat pad had completely disintegrated! No wonder the seat was so uncomfortable. I still loved that rust-bucket.

I also found a small fortune in change when I pulled the seats from both 123's I have. In the Euro 123 I was hoping it would have some evidence of its life in Germany but I didn't find a single item. It appears it spent nearly its entire life in the US from all the various receipts and US coins I found in the car. I actually had all the seats and carpets removed from the car to clean it as I do all the cars I buy used.

In the 300SD, I found some old pencils, pens, and broken glass from a vandalism a couple of years ago. This is pretty interesting though. When I was installing new rear speakers in the 300D, I found a pencil under the old speakers.

A while ago, I found 3 used condoms. The guy swore to me that he, and only he, had driven the car and he knew every mile on it. It was strictly to take him to work and back. He was surprised at the condom find. Wonder what his wife would have to say about having 3 filled condoms in the back seat. needless to say, I didn't feel like buying that car.
