Red face What did you find when you removed the rear seat?

Maybe a few of us here are buying these Diesels new, but I think most of us are buying them used. Some of us buy directly from the previous owner, but in many cases, we stumble upon them in auctions or junkyards. I mean that's where I found two of my Mercedes....
Inevitably there comes a day when you redo your rear shocks or put in new speakers and the Rear Seat gets removed and thats when you do the find the Time warp and trash dump that makes you say " Oh my gosh..someone else loved this car before me!!!"
The mountain of trash helps you relive the car's previous owners live's from day one and mile zero on its odometer...report cards, candy wrappers, hair doo-dads, and late homework....this guy obviously ahd several daughter's...
I once found an oil change stub from 1986 with the first owner's name and address on it. This was the 85 300D I had found abandoned in a junkyard with a salvage title 13 years later...The car was a real mess but mechanically it was fine and after a new paint job and engine rebuild I had her looking like brand new..
I always was tempted to look up the first owner and knock on his door.hen I found the oil change stub..I started wondering. Maybe some 30 year old lady would have answered my knock on the door. She would have glanced right past me and immediately recognized that Great Car with its great memories and been in tears looking at the car her Dad always picked her up after high school in..
Or else some one would've have answered the door with an impatient look and a busy tone and stared at the car briefly in boredom and given me a funny look and said. " Look...uhh, dont you have anything better to spend your time on?"
So I threw the Oil Change stub away.....

Nothing under the SDL's seat just some dried corn under the rear speaker tray and by the passengers side speaker. I think the SDL sat for awhile in a garage and mice stored food in their.

Now the 420 that was interesting... It was a home boys car and kind of riced out. I found a few hard core porn mags under the rear seat. Also a lot of candy rappers. (munchies?) Not to mention spare blue light builbs everywhere. Oh and the tools were not in the tool kit a porn mag replaced the tools.

Let's see, dirt, more dirt, some salt and pepper things (paper packets from fast food places), stickers from paper cups (peel off and win), paper clips, lots of broken glass (broken rear window at some point), several toothpicks still in their plastic wrappers, and more dirt. Some of the dirt was stuck down so someone spilled a drink a time or two. I think the car was probably 10 pounds lighter after I got all the dirt out of there.

I've got lots of receipts from the previous owner, almost everything done to the car (all in the glove compartment when I bought it from a used car place)..... the first owner was a printing company in Lubbock that had it about a year.

I found a small fortune (a few dollars) in change and a lot of random non-speical stuff.
My car hasn't let an exciting life it seems...*sad* but I guess it gets one now
I try to keep small things out of my car becuase I know they will get lost.

P.S. my sister snapped a ignition key off in my drivers door lock today...not a happy way to wake up

Purchased an '87 Mazda pickup 6 years ago from a used car dealer, $400.00. Just traded in. Started to clean it up. Interior covered in dirt. Looked under the bench seat and there must of been a hundred candy bar wrappers stuffed there and an old Hustler magazine. Needless to say I threw out all those candy wrappers.
Under the back seat of the Benz were tons of kiddie toys which explained the flattened condition of the seat.

i haven't had the rear seat yet ...........

but in the backyard, while digging the patio, we found, toy soldiers, small glass elxir bottles about 3 inches tall, broken bits of toilet, broken bits of plates , soda bottle glass, old skeleton keys, and much more that became a shadowbox of the past.

the original house burned down in1954 and the modern ranch built in 1955. looked up the property history in the records at the county building and even found the builders of this house still living in town.

found a bunch of change

A while ago I was looking in a junk yard for 3 sets of GM rear seatbelts. I pulled the back seats out of about 20 cars. I ended up with over $50 in change. The seat belts and a few other minor items I paid for were under $20. Life can be good!

The junkyard dogs know that there is plenty of beer money under those seats... Mostly under the driver's seat.

You will find the weirdest stuff if you can go to an impound lot auction. You will find everything left in the cars: money, drugs, booze, porn, photos of lewd women, clothes, food, blood stained seats, personal papers and tools...

Aside from the VERY creepy fact that tonight I had to remove my rear seat to clean because a drink drooled down that I brought home....The cup had a hole in it!!!!!!!!! It all went under the seat though, as I had stuck the cup in the space behind the arm rest in back. So nothing got on any exterior surface, it pooled in the floor tray under the carpet, and under the seat in that tray, so I cleaned the heck out of all of it....I discovered a few dollars in 80's change.....an old wheel castor...?!......a stick it note with "Rolling Stones Magazine-$15.95, 1 year" and a NY address scribbled on it, it was real yellowed, so probably very old. And a throat losenge, and some sand....which was probably from me and my friends....(several trips to lake MI ) I cleaned it all out though, I freaked when I lifted the cup and it weighed 5x less than it should have So that is my rear seat story....and it happened tonight, just in time for this thread!!

Not Under The Seat But

A few years ago I wne to the junk yard to get a part for my Volvo. I had to remove an engine part and when I was finished, I put it in the trunk. In there, was some Barbie stuff including a Barbie Boat. So I took it out as well as all the other Barbie stuff and went to the counter. They charged me for the part but not the Barbie stuff. My daughter was very happy.
