renewing switch for electric seat adjustment front
 

my car is an 83 300sd, I bought a 87 420sel for the interour and other nick nacks, my problem is this; I have the Mercedes-benz service manual chassis and body series 126. I'm at job #82-865 ( above title). The lower part of the page has two pictures, Switch, left and switch, right. I think the left is right and the right is left. they have it backwards, I think.My car has soldered pin sockets and the switches from the 420 has switch with plugged in harness. I'm trying to figure out also what this statment means. " the harness without red/white line(1st version) requires a bridge between connectionA and B. On lefthand switch from connection A(no.4) to connection B(no.3) on righthand switch fromconnection A(no.3) to connectionB(no.4)," Now because they have the pictures backwards, I'm more cofused the normal, I also struggle with electrics, so any one who could help me understand how to do this swap of switches, I'd be very greatful. steve

I was at pick and pull the other day and was looking at a 83sd and those seat switchs plug into a socked on the wire harness should be able to just pull it apart and plug it in.

Ouch! I hate it when they cross stuff up like that. Steve, your description is entirely accurate. I looked in my book, and sure enough, they have the pictures not matching the wire callouts. I believe the comments about bridging between the terminals amounts to this: Look at the schematic for the "first version" - the first schematic shown for job 82-860. See how there is a red wire to the top of item 6 and 10? Well, the other versions had a red wire AND a red/white wire. I THINK this means that if you have both wires, no problem. If you have only the red wire, you have to solder a jumper wire on the outside of ther switch from where the red wire goes to where the red/white one WOULD go, if it were there. If you don't, I think the seat bottom works, but not the backrest. See the inside drawing of items 6 and 10? Power from the fuse is switched to the motors by those lines, and maybe replacement switches are second version only. If they got the diagrams right, this would be easy, no? :mad:

Yes, it would be much easyer, now I just have to wait till I have time to mess with it,I have no time until this weekend, so I may need some more help later understanding this switch up grade, thank you for your help, steve
