Rear Fog Lamp
Several years ago there was a forum thread relating to revival of the W123 rear fog lamp (second pull click) position. I did a search, and found a reference to it deep in the archive, but not the one I had originally read that included the instructions. There was no socket on mine, so I added one. But where to get juicatricity? Is the harness pre-wired with the left fog line dormant, or must I run a new line? Has anyone done this? I have been wanting a rear fog for a few years now, and I have some to tinker with my car bit. The fog can be nasty here in the valley, and I'd feel better with that prominent rear mark while driving in the soup.

Requires bulb olders, running wire to NEW Ecode switch with fogs. Not sure about cost of switch $100 maybe, wireing is cheap, and extra bulb holders from bone yard.
Instead of the trouble and expence of eurofog's in rear you could run a jumper wire from brake light to new bulb's and have four brake light's or make it have 4 tail lights. Your best protection in the fog would be install a combo brake/tail light bulb and have it wired to both and if fog is really bad then use E flacher's. http://mycitycable.com/~wpreasons/Brake_Light_5.JPG |
Hey. Those look slick! I have the socket installed, and the '123 switch already has the rear "on" position. So for me it would be just a matter of wiring, but I was hoping MB left the unused line in the harness. I could not tell by looking at it. I'll compare it against the harness diagram in the factory manual. It gets confusing, at least in my manual, because the color abbreviations on the wiring diagram are in German. Hence "yellow" is really "glb".

Mine is a US car and only has the front fogs switch.
In VW US car's the car's are not wired for rear fogs, but the bulb holders are there. I have done the 4 brake light mod to the wife's Jetta, I managed a euro switch for it instead of the US front fog only switch, for same money so I could switch if needed to for a little of nothing. |
Unrelated... (It's my thread. I can do that :D ) How do you like the Jetta? I am buying a new car in a couple of months and was really impressed by the Passat GLX V6 4Motion I test drove. Though I am leaning toward a 325xi. The 300D stays though. I would never part with thou whom I love most. :P

I would go with the 4Motion. Jetta has been bullet proof. |

My headlight switch has the two positions (front fog and rear fog) already, but I see no light socket in the taillight assembly. I'd like to know if the wiring in the body harness is there or not. Seems silly to make two different harness assemblies just because of one wire.
My Euro 280SE had the rear fog, and I miss it. |
