Dial Pins
My brother recently had to replace the dial pins in his 80 300D. The dampner pulley was spinning freely.
Well he has run it for about two months and it seems to have sheared the pins again. He said that the pulley can be seen to wobble slightly and was wondering if it is a problem with the pulley. What would be the most likely cause of the dial pins shearing?? Thanks in advance. Stephen

They are the pins that keep the crank pulley from rotating freely on the shaft. Don't know why they are called that and not shear pins or something else. Anyway when they break the crank pulley is allowed to rotate freely on the shaft and the accesory belts are not rotated (water pump etc.)

Try doing an advanced search for posts from user "LarryBible" containing the words "harmonic balancer." It can be very tricky to install correctly, and he's discussed the procedure a couple of times.

Sorry about the misguided name My brother called them dial pins and I thought "hey must be a mercedes thing" I would have called it a shear pin or somethng else. Thanks for the heads up.
