Sawzall, the New Mercedes Tool?
 

I was yanking the pumpkin out of John Doe-nor last night but the tailpipe was in the way of letting the unit down with the axles in place. After a brief head-scratching session where I considered unbolting the back end of the exhaust system, I decided simply to cut the offending section out with my Sawzall.

Hehe, sure is fun/easy working on a car that you know will never have to roll again.

I bought an engine a couple of years ago from a salvage yard and it didn't take them 15 minutes to get it out of the car and have it on a pallet ready to go.

They just cut everything holding it in there with a cutting torch, motor mounts and all! The only thing the unbolted was the tranny attatched! :sun_smile BB

An abrasive blade in a skil-saw will really eat one up too.

I have two Saws All models in my shop. A Milwaukie and a DeWalt.
Don't tell anyone. Might think I am a real hack!

There's a deep primitive satisfaction to be gained in going after a car with an acetylene torch. It's not as good as sex but it's in that same kind of category.

Whats the Mercedes part number for the new tool. Does Hazmet or Sir tool make one.
I have one for the 1965 Ford Mustang but It's SAE not Metric, :D :D :D

Whatever you do, don't use one of the SAE versions on your Mercedes. The metric versions do cost three times as much, but there is nothing like having the right tool for the job.

On Histroy or Discovery channel there was a series about monster machines. one I liked was a hydraulic contraption that would simply clamp onto an engine and then rip it out---they didn't unbolt ANYTHING, just tore it all out.

For some reason I don't think I'd want to transplant an engine that was ripped out like that.
