Rack damper pin adjustment

Okay I've done the search on how to do this but I cannot find where to start. What I mean is, how far do you screw a new rack damper pin in initially before you start adjusting it? There must be a set number of turns, depth, etc. Thanks, RT

I don't believe that there is any magic to it. I changed the pin on the SD to improve the idle quality and the new pin has more spring tension in it. I simply screwed it in until it makes contact with the rack and then turned it in another two turns or so to preload the spring. You don't want to use more tension than you need to get a smooth idle. If you are quite ambitious, simply screw it in one turn past initial contact and try it. If the idle is not satisfactory, try one additional turn and evaluate.

I adjusted mine with the car idling in "Drive", engine warm. Turned the pin initially until it just made contact. Then turned it in further until engine ran smoothly. The engine was fairly sensitive to changes in tension. If you turn the pin in too far, the engine will lack power and be difficult to start.

I also did my adjustment with mine running, then I checked it in both Park and Drive, and then got it as perfect as I could. I went back and adjusted it two more times after that even, just to have it absolutely perfect...but it sure is now :D
