Trap Catalyst ID for '85 300D
I've got the 6171420294 part on this car. I'd appreciate it if someone could confirm this is indeed the new trap catalyst and not the old trap oxidizer that Mercedes is retrofitting.
Thanks

You need to call a MB dealer with the number to confrim.
They both look identical.

According to my invoice from the local dealer on 11/00, my '85 300 TDT had the oxidizer replaced with a catalyst, part # 126-490-34-14. Vwbudge is right, they look identical, so much so that I later went back to the dealer to verify that I didn't need a new trap. On an earlier invoice (dated 3/96), before the new cats were being retrofitted, as part of the regular 30K service they replaced part # 617-142-02-94 with what was described on the invoice as a "soot filter". Sounds like you have the old oxidizer.
Nothing like having records from day one.

i agree, the new number is 126-490-34-14 which did replace 617-142-00-94 and 617-142-02-94 Ray mercedessd@cox.net |

That's good news. Since I got the car I thought it had the new part.
I had a mix up with the part numbers somehow. ...probably explains why I have 4 lbs of boost all of a sudden. I'll call the dealer tomorrow. Hopefully they'll be willing to retrofit the new part and fix whatever else is needed. Thanks a lot for the help!

Actually, that's great news. The dealer should not only replace the oxidizer, but should give you a new exhaust and possibly a new turbo.
