5k is a lot for a diesel! Also the 603/606 engines seem to love to rev. But these days some gas cars are in the 7k-9k range.

F1 cars I think are up to 18k-19k rpm!

The highest I've gone with my car is 105 MPH. The engine started to sound strained and I was at 3900 RPM. Based on this very unscientific evidence, I can see the 5700 RPM (safety) limit being real ... Since I don't have any opportunity to drive it at high speeds legally, top speed is not a big concern. I love how it feels at 75, which is what I drive it everyday.

OldSouth has a W140 OM603. His tach shows 4700 RPM being the redline - which he hit doing 120. That car may have a different final drive ratio than the 124 or 126. Still, it's a great reference point.

That's 4400 rpm. That is a 350 with a much larger stroke.

The 300 has the same revving nature as the turbocharged 606. Factory rated redline is 5000 - 5300 rpm. Getting to those engine speeds, one would have to remain in either "3" or "2" since the transmission will not shift up that high.

Foot to floor, I get shifts reaching nearly 5K, but not quite. With "2" engaged, I can get up to 5.4K.

....I sound like a freak when I say "TEMPERATURE'S RISING!". Please ignore me. I was just noticing the coolant temp starting to rise a little higher than I would care. I had a bad auxiliary fan, so I switched on the defroster.

LOL, no problems with the bottom end, Hattie. This tape was taken a long time ago. Ask the Finnish gurus who run theirs up to 6K each and every day(both turbo'ed 603's and 606's).

My Honda has an engine thats safe to 9,200 rpm..........but its had a bit of work done to it too.

Most have a dot on the speedo at the recommended top speed.

I don't see how this vehicle, with supposedly 103k on the clock, can have such a crappy interior. I posted some comparison shots of mine, same color, at 134k mi. The first two are of the eBay vehicle.

Hopefully I will cause no offense, but I can't see a red MB-Tex or leather interior without thinking, "Pimpin'!"

The ebay car looks like its had a 350 pounder driving it looking at the wrinkles in the leather so low on the seat bottom.

Yours looks a lot nicer - I agree that interior is no way 103,000 miles.. the seat just looks too all-over worn.

No offence but, red would not be my first choice either

although I guess it's quite different to the usual!

I just have to say "wow" to your interior. That is clean. I don't care if it is red, if I saw that in a car I was looking at buying I'd start to drool.

Thanks. I realize folks either love or hate the maroon leather, but I can tell you it looks different in person. It's more of a rich burgundy; the computer screens don't do it justice. I LOVE IT!
