For Diesel tough bonds, does Glue really STICK?

Sometimes I wonder, besides Plastic to Plastic bonds, do Glue bonds really stick? What is everyone else in the Diesel community thinking or feeling?
If its metal to metal I would rather weld or rivet or use a threaded fastener; but sometimes marine grade epoxy does stick. Once while redoing an engine block I repaired a stripped timing chain pin socket with epoxy. 5 years later and the joint is still there. On my RX7 motors, I used to block a 1/2' hole in the intake plenum with the stuff. But that stuff is useless in hi heat areas like the Exhaust manifold.
If its metal to rubber, you might be able to use GOOP. I am wondering what others feel about this type of Bond.
If its metal to plastic, like trim, I would use epoxy my feeling about this is that heat and temperature and time eventually fatigue such abond and that a fastener system is still the best.
My overall philosophy is Glues are sometimes suspect. I had a loose map pocket that I finally fixed by pulling the panel and using a self threading screw to attach it from the reverse side of the panel. Glues always failed in this situation.

Thumbs up Adhesives work

The rubber bumper trim was very lose on both my bumpers. I used Liquid Nails and 4 tie down straps, ratcheting kind, and so far it is an impercepable repair. It has now been about 5 months.

Well in the marine industry chemical bonds are slowly taking over from mechanical forms of bonding. With some of the new adhesives such as plexus holding in center consoles bolts and screws are being phased out. For example I like a product called Marine Tex it is a real hard epoxy that loves metal. I have used it to cover up a rust hole on my fender and it works well.

One thing to remeber is epoxy will not stick to plastic.
