Anybody getting any christmas presents related to their car ?

Are you getting anything for the car or are your wifes/girlfriends just fed up and refuse to get anything car related ?

I'm most likely getting a lifetime bed in the back seat of one of my cars, with living quarters centered in the pass seat area. With parking in a luxurious portion of downtown (somewhere OTHER than where I "temporarily" live now!)

whunter 12-17-2004 09:13 PM

That really vacuums.

rg2098 12-17-2004 09:54 PM

zooklm 12-17-2004 09:54 PM

I'm getting a couple of hours to mess with the ALDA tomorrow morning so I'll enjoy my 1K rt drive to the in-laws for Christmas even more than usual. And I think that's just great. It'll be a pleasure to be able to do Italian tune-ups again. :)

Luke 12-17-2004 10:54 PM

New Hella H4 headlights. :D And (oh joy) an auxiliary water pump.

Brandon314159 12-18-2004 01:00 AM

I am getting one (or maybe 2?) of the following things:
Pyrometer
Boost Gauge
Hella H4 Headlights (Euro)
8 Quarts of my favorite 15-50w Full Syntheic :)

Its a trade between the pyrometer and the H4 headlights...
I need a pyrometer for projects...but better light is good.
I am due for a oil change...I am not telling how many miles :)

Get a battery powered one that comes in the red box...what is it...whatever that brand is
Dad has one and it kicks some serious butt when it comes to taking things off.
Make sure you get the high voltage one though :)

Hey, if you're kidding and didn't get one, I installed a "TinyTach" in my Dodge. They're about $65 and sense off the injector lines. Easy, fast install.

Hey, I been there. Took a contract in SLC one year and was there through Xmas. Couldn't find a rental that would let me have my dog, so I slept on the front seat of my full-size Jeep wagoneer and he slept on top of all my belongings in the back. He was fine (1/2 captured timber wolf, 1/2 aussie shep) in sub-zero temps, I ended up buying a down parka as an Xmas present to myself to wear inside my sleeping bag at night. Ate my Xmas supper at Flying J truck stop in Salt lake, along with all the other diesel derelects hauling loads at Xmas time.

Was in the late 80's and was making $22/hr, could easily afford a room, but no motels, rentals, etc., would allow a dog. Finally bought a used single axle 1967 vintage travel trailer to live in. Upgraded to a better one on a contract back east a few years later.

Not sure WTH I did with all the $'s I made back then, but I'm sure it had to do with women and ethanol of one sort or another.

I'm probably the only girl in the country who gave her parents a "want list" that included parts numbers. I'm pretty sure I'll get a lot of Mercedes stuff, whether it's car parts (my big want was a new inside rearview mirror for my W124 ... old one is literally disintegrating) or cutesy collectible stuff (or books ... I asked for the EClass Owners Bible or historical stuff). My family knows pretty well by now that they can get me anything with a three pointed star on it and I'll be happy (that or baseball stuff, or anything Denver Broncos).

Among the items on my list: Meguiars cleaning products, a rearview mirror, a license plate mount, a new set of the screws that hold the radiator cowling on, a paint job (not likely), tires (also not likely or particularly necessary), E-Class Owners Bible, MB miscellania/historical items.

So much for diamonds and chocolates, eh?

whunter 12-18-2004 02:37 PM

Nice.

Take a pic of the mirror, I may have one for you (no diamonds or chocolate though!)

Sounds sorta like my list!
You get a thumbs up for hardcore though...any (presumeably young) person that drives a older mercedes is cool. (espically one that wants parts for christmas!)

A female friend of mine is restoring and making road worthy a 1967 VW Squareback. I am more than glad to help her seeing as how females driving old cars around here is quite rare.

My sainted 83 year old mother is paying for me to take "the smoker" to an indy for troubleshooting. Even in your 40's you can't beat mom!!! :D

Too late, my 'rents just gave me one for my birthday (which was the 17th), but thanks. The real fun comes now, when I try to install it.

Yes, I sure don't come across many people my age (let alone women) who share my love for older cars. If they do, it tends to be more along the lines of Mopar and such, rather than I6 diesels.

Most of my friends in college (I graduated in May) had no appreciation for my car ... they assumed because I was always repairing things (or, more often, paying to have things repaired) that it was some sort of junker. I always felt like telling them to come find me when their 2004 Lexus or Land Rover had 200,000 miles on it and we'll see where they stand. Guys generally had a respect for my car ("Oooooo you have a Mercedes!" or "this has 200,000 miles on it?!"), but other girls tended to miss the boat ("Wow, your car is loud" or "this thing is so old").

Your friend's restoration project sounds cool. I'd love to get into something like that. My dad has a 1936 Chrysler Airflow in his garage that has been sitting there for about 15 years and is in fine condition considering it was his father's daily driver and his for a while (both he and his father drove it to their respective college's). He said I'm welcome to it if I can fix it up. My sister's boyfriend and I were thinking about it, but neither of us know enough to feel comfortable digging in just yet.

Stuff

valve adjustment wrenches and one of those Performance Products fender pads so I won't scratch the paint on the fleet.

Well, I'm not a girl, but I give lists with part numbers as well. Humm, new grill including the first high mileage badge, headlight surrounds, antenna mast, vacuum bleed off valve. Sorry forgot the part numbers, the list was submited to parental units a few months ago.

my wife sent me out for

a zerostart and 2 bottles of ps white.

Hal Scripka 12-19-2004 08:57 PM

Why yes. I am hoping for a creeper, some wheel chocks (tired of using assorted objects), and more metric wrenches. I own a 190D with 300,000 and a 300SDL with a 170,000. As you might expect I spend alot of time in the garage.

devildogdoc 12-19-2004 09:30 PM

Wife got me a Craftsman 6 HP 33 gallon air compressor to replace the 6 gallon framing compressor I had...... she's a keeper..... well the wife too! :D :D :D

Yeah I did a presentation in my University Studies class the other day and the question was presented.
What car do you drive?
I spit out "1981 300SD Turbo Diesel Mercedes Benz" faster than I should have...
I got a little "wow" but all was quiet.
Then a girl asked if my car was restored...her 1983 BMW was "fully restored"..
I just said..."um..its stock?" haha

I have gained the respect of my friends in mercedes diesel but this comes from pulling them out of ditches, power sliding, and throwing smoke. With two of my friends driving a 96 Oldsmobile and a 97 RX-7, I can usually keep up with them. Its not all that impressive until you realize my car has 270+k miles, gets 25-27mpg, and still handles beautifuly.

My other car? A 1969 Bug...odd huh? Owning one of the cheapest and most expensive cars made during the 'old days'

Have fun with that restoration project...it can devour time like no other. (But sometimes that is a good thing :))

BobK 12-20-2004 12:42 AM

I'm getting a set of Bilstein HD rear shocks for the SDL and a few more hand tools. And since I have the week between the holidays off, I get to install them. Plus I get to do some other troubleshooting that I have not had time to do. Wanted a new flat jack, but could not find one I liked before the $$$ ran out.

Tools

I am hoping for a nice big set of Craftsman tools. Most of my current good stuff is kept on my boat and I can never find a tool at home when I need it. The other day it took me 30 minutes to find a phillips screwdriver.

Oh and a locking cabinet for the tools!

Scott98 12-20-2004 09:02 AM

Since my starter solenoid was frozen solid this morning, probably a new starter. :(

Not unless . . .

. . . I buy it for myself. My lady friend, Miss Linda, couldn't find a clue about cars if you pinned said clue to her coat.

My plan is to pick up the chromed trunk handle accessory the dealer has, and get a new license plate frame to match. Brake tag next week (to satisfy the law -- not exactly a present for me or the car), and maybe I'll have the windows tinted (though that could wait until maybe March).

bjcsc 12-20-2004 09:28 AM

Last year I got the gf a nice set of MB Palomino floor mats for the 240D - ordered them from MB. They were not the cheeseball mats (with giant stars, or "Benzo" scripted on them), but identical to the original mats. I was really excited to give them to her as there were none in the 240D at that time (we had just bought it). I'm single, but you married guys probably have already guessed the size of the lead balloon this went over as. Although she likes them, she said it was "the worst Christmas present ever". Ha! It's been a running joke this season. So, no more MB presents from me...

Oh man! Worst Christmas present ever? If a guy gave me floormats, he'd get extra "bf points" in my book. Floormats were actually on my list this year ...

But next time, maybe just roll up some roses in the floormats when you present them ... ;)

KCampbell 12-20-2004 09:41 AM

I am reasonably certain that there is a large, red, wheeled, tool chest hiding on the premises somewhere for me.

I know for a fact that I'm getting a number of books on the Silver Shadow and Silver Spirit, because I ordered those for myself :) I also got permission to renew my RROC membership after a lapse of 4 years, which is practically permission to go shopping for a Roller in my mind :D

later when talking to her also just married friends about first presents for christmas she told everyone that i bought her headlights. after their stunned response she warmly rold them how much she liked tham and theu kept her safe. that was about the last time she defended me.
