Front OIl Seal Leak

Has anyone done a re & re on the front oil seal and have any tips to pass along. The manual talks about all kinds of special jigs for seating the new seal and I wonder if that is really required. It looks like an easy job once the rad is removed. Is the dampner hard to get off. The car is a 1984 300D turbo.

I need to do the same project on my 79 240D. I could use the same tips.

Thanks in advance.

Pretty straight forward and no you do not need the special tools if you take your time with it. The hardest part will be removing/torqueing the crank pully bolt. You should be able to do this job with just the radiator removed.
