I guess I jumped on the funnies too soon for our fine Brit friend.

I sold a 190D--5 speed and while it got pretty good mileage-the best I could get was maybe 39mpg-locked in on cruise control @ 55mph on a very flat smooth road-Alligator Alley between miami and naples. No headwind and warm day-80 degrees. Tremendous mileage claim!

Just thought I can help.
I live in europe and many times I needed to do calculations in order to find out a specific car's mileage.
I did a little calculation and I found out that in order to find out how many liters of fule does a car consume in 100 Km's (62 miles) all you need to do is divide 235 by a specific car's milage in mpg. The result is the consuption in liters per 100 Km.

Example 25mpg is:

235/25=9.4 Liters per 100 Km.

easy and quick

I wish everybody on the forum a year of zero trouble with their MB's.

Warm fuel

Have we forgotten that diesel fuel expands as it is warmed by the return fuel line, thus taking less fuel to fill the tank . With a tank near empty or fueled the next day, not after a 130 mile drive, the fuel usage may be closer to 3.5 US gallons.

The best I've done with my 2.5 190D auto is 35mpg (all freeway and tank near empty with summer fuel).

I think 130 miles -- using just over two imperial gallons -- is too short for an accurate reading. When I top off after only a few miles, I get a skewed result.

What are your average, *per tank*, mpg for city and highway?

I believe his 61 mpg claim (isn't that UK gallons... as in, 52 mpg for the US? ). Either way, I achieved 33mpg on my 300SD over 110 miles at 55 mph with four adults in the car, luggage in the trunk, and the A/C running the whole way. And yes, I measured it accurately by means of three different means and everything was verified as correct!!
