:Very confused:

That is far beyond possible MPG.
Do not use the odometer to calculate MPG.
MB odometers are known for failure = false reading.
Check your odometer with mile markers and Global Position sensor.
Did you mean 61KM per Liter?
Have a great day.

must have been going downhill....

How do you clarify 59 mph vs., say, 60?
130 miles at 59? why not let your hair down and bump it up to 60?
and 61 mpg...
It is simply not possible, me thinks.

i can see y u all dont believe me. i have found a difference of about 400 revs/minute between 59mph and 63.. and as u all know the engine is at its most ecoomical at its max torque, whatever revs that is...about 2,600-2,700rpm on 2.5 litre 190d's.. for 128 out of 130miles on that trip i was at those revs,, watching them the whole way... and thats what it did. ok fair enough if u dont believe me.. it cost me £8 at .839p/litre... thats all i know. previous best was 48mpg doing this half way.

I averaged about 35-36 mpg over a couple of years on my 190D.

Question Anomaly?

I need more data.
Can you give http://www.mapquest.com/directions/main.adp
for your generic route, and weather data for that day?
A 35 MPH or higher tail wind could account for a large variation, such as you report.

I have gotten 85 MPG and 2 MPG on a 1985 Chevy Citation 3.0L, same car, same day, driving in Hurricane Hugo, wind speed 118 MPH, not what I could call normal driving conditions.

I do not understand how or why you where able to achieve such extreme MPG, and would like to know if it can be duplicated on a regular basis.
Thank you for sharing.

Faulty measurement system.

If you determined an mpg rating based on burning only 2 gals of fuel, your system is flawed. You simply cannot measure the amount of fuel precisely enough at such small quantities. You need to travel much farther, and "fill up" with more fuel to minimize the inaccuracies associated when filling up. Try filling up, then driving the car until only 1/8 of a tank remains, then re-fill and calculate the mpg. I suspect that 40 mpg would be about the best you could expect.

i will try and duplicate it, but i recon it was just perfect conditions (ie wind like u said), but i will let u know how close i can get to it using the same route and driving speed.

Since you are talking of cost in pounds I assume you are in England and in that case you may be correct. Gallon there = 5 liters compared to 3.78 here in the US.

The conversion factors between American and English measurement could explain the issue.

People have reported getting 44 mpg US (53 mpg Imp) with their 190D 2.5 5-speeds. I did a rough calculation and came up with 52 mpg US (62 mpg Imp)from the info you provided.
