The real test today.... only 7 degrees right now
 

Jersey is finally under attack by the cold weather. Right now it's 7 degrees outside and the car was not plugged in since I have much faith in it. We will see tonight how everything went, I hope all your other diesels start today as well. We need some sun cause I hate this damn cold :sun_smile

It was -22 C (-8 F) here in the morning. Good thing my car is in the garage overnight...

Hope yours started nicely, mine did. It was still about -8 C in the garage and no problems.

eek. I tried starting mine sunday morning +2 degrees and it wouldnt have ANY of it. Good Luck!!!
Block heater is your friend!!!!

Coldest I ever started my '00 NB TDI (diesel) was -6* F after sitting two days and it started easier the wife's '00 Toyota Echo she had at the time. The problem with my New Beetle was it took about 10 miles before there was heat coming out the vents. Thank goodness it had head mirriors, rear window and heated wind shield washer fluid.

The VW also had heated seats.

Yesterday it was 4 degrees in my garage. I ran two glow plug cycles and she fired right up. It had a little mis-firing for a minute but then all was well.

This morning at 12 degrees I got cocky and ran only one gp cycle. It started ok, but with a lot more mis-firing than yesterday.

Two gp cycles highly recommended.

BTW: I didn't plug it in either time.

Started right up!
 

Covered with snow and ice with a -7F windchill. One GP cycle and she fired right up.

It was only after I started it that I realized that the timer on the block heater was set at 7PM, not AM.

Now if I could only figure out why the cabin heat is wonky, I'd be all set.

1:15PM - 2 degrees F - Had to use the booster pack.

Placing the order today for my block heater cord (and belt tensioner).

Comparing the 'Turn Over' speed of the starter on the booster pack - It looks like I am going to invest in a new battery. Unknown condition from PO.

It was in the teens and my car did not want to start. First, the solenoid was sticking so it took about five minutes of turning the key over before the starter finally engaged. Once it engaged, I had to crank it about 3 different times before it finally started. The car is currently at the dealership having a new starter installed.

The 240D was left out last night to test cold starting and this morning at 19* F she fired right up 30 seconds after glow light went out, sounded like hell, but it smoothed out in just a few seconds. :D I thought last night it was to be down around 10* F, but no 2 weather sites or TV station's have same prediction. :eek: I'll try again Wednesday or Thursday.

-16 C this morning and it started right up. But then I had it plugged in all night, otherwise it wouldn't have even pretended to start.

Coldest I have ever started a MB diesel was -20 F. Without a block heater. That was with a new starter and a battery from a Lincoln turbo diesel.

4 deg C this morning. Started right up. I'm really glad I replaced those glow plugs!

i'd love to see if mine would start (it's about 10 degrees out right now :eek: )
but all the doors are so solid frozen over with ice i can't even get in the car! :eek:

Some in my fleet start but most don't below 10 degrees F. Last night, my brother's fired and started and we were reading about 2 degrees F. The worst one wants 28 degrees or warmer.

5 degrees here and the '87 started faster than all other vehicles in the yard. Block heater made all the difference. I am still amazed at how smooth and the lack of smoke when it has been warmed for three hours. :sun_smile
