I actually saw an idot do this one time at the auto hobby center on base and I think everyone in the place jumped on that guy. The guy said he had been doing it whenever he changed the oil, so as to get all the dirty oil that was in car out. It was explained to him that his car was not self primming on it's oil pump by the guy in charge of the shop, and that half qt of dirty oil would not hurt anything. Anyway the clown, a LtCL in the Army, put the oil in the car and started it with a fast idle and sent a rod through the block. I was in stall next him trying to change my oil when his engine blew, and pucked it's guts on the floor. I had oil all over my shoes & socks.

Not to rub salt in but you did bring this on yourself. Turning the engine on with no oil during the oil change has to be the must stupid thing I have ever heard of. Without oil the timing chain tensioner is not pumped up not helping that any, I could imagin the poor valves and cams screaming. Ouch talk about abuse. Well you probably seized the thing, I sudjest learning from your mistakes and never doing this again.
Not very sympathetic ey Hatteras Guy??

What a dumbass! He poured Kerosene in the engine too!

Hope he doesn't plan on reproducing.

They have quit teaching auto mechanics in school, because it's really beneath most of our advanced little munchkins. How awfull to teach a kid a trade that would relegate him/her to a life under the hood of a vehicle???

This kid was under the impression that the oil cools the engine. I wonder what he thinks the coolant is for - drinking?

I can't believe how much he cursed during every post. Didn't his parents teach him any manners?

I sometimes wonder how some of the people in this world manage to use toilet paper without any instructions printed on the package.

Even considering all his mistakes, I really feel sorry for him. He stated that he "loved" the car and was thinking of "killing himself" over his stupidity. I hope his father can console and encourage him into the fact that there is a future after destroying a "thing" that you hold in high esteem... and that to learn from such a severe mistake is far better than berating oneself for "being stupid". I hope he "grows" from this and yes, hopes he learns to speak/write without all the profanity.

I believe that if the same thing happened on this furum, the victim would receive much more encouragement from members here than what I read over there.

It does act as a heat transfer medium, along with the water-based coolant. Why else would there be an oil cooler?

Yeah, maybe I'm too nice, but I felt kind of sorry for him. Personally, my current feeling is that no one should be allowed to handle (or in some cases even drive) a car without some basic knowledge of how the thing works. That said, I was guilty of being an ignorant car owner for the first four years of my time behind the wheel ... I'm by no means a stupid person, but have done stupid things in my life (fortunately not with cars). so this young guy might just be doing what someone told him was right, with no idea the danger to the car. What a rotten way to learn!

You know......people like that should not be allowed to own a car.....think of the abuse his cars are subjected to and the crap future owners are getting stuck with.

That's true but that's not its primary function. I don't think the kid thought that far through it anyway.
