Real MB diesels

I may be looking to add another Benz to my family and I am thinking of a pre-95 diesel sedan model because I understand the quality of MBs decreased after the merger.
Any thoughts on which diesels to stay away from or which ones to give special consideration? I will be probably looking for a 93-95 and it doesn't have to be a diesel but I have gotten so intimate with my 80 300D that I thought I would give another one a try.

Thanks

The '91-'95 3.5 litre diesels are not noted for their durability. Many suffer from bent connecting rods resulting in a very expensive repair. Their are numerous threads concerning this topic if you search the keyword "rod bender".

If you are considering a M/B in this vintage, I would recommend the gasoline engine models, unless you are a gambling man.
