I just installed a DieHard "International" tonight, its a 1000 cranking amp battery.....36 month warranty...and 100 month rated service life.....my old battery was (at least) 3-4 years old, probably older, but it was a genuine MB battery, last winter it still had lots of go left and I could glow 35 seconds then crank another 30 nonstop before it would slow down, by which the engine got going anyways so it was ok This winter it was ok for about a month, but today and the past few days I've gotten not even 15 seconds of crank out of it, so I got rid of it when it failed me this morning... The new one gives an EASY 30-40 seconds of crank after a 40 second glow, I like it!! Merry Christmas Mr. Car, the battery is its present

Yeah, that trick by PEH is good to know. Another thing that works sometimes is to put the car in first and then shove it forward a foot. Or reverse and let it roll back. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. When it works you probably have a bad starter pinion.
My feeling is that for most of the life of the car you're going to be spending a lot more making it start than you will making it run. Cut open an old battery cable sometime and look at what's inside. I bet you'll change your cables more often after you do that. |
