Exclamation Don't do this while driving....DUH!

I thought I'd share this with you all...
Today while driving I got the brilliant idea to adjust my seat of my 230CE while driving. It's a little tough to adjust while standing still. So as I was accelerating I reached for the side seat adjuster to move the seat back a little (mistake#1) the seat went back too far! It was to the point where I could barely reach the pedals and I'm 6'1! So as I got near the stop sign I started to brake while adjusting the seat forward (mistake#2) and wham(!) the seat lurched forward and I nearly slammed my gut into the steering wheel and the car nearly stopped suddenly. I'm not too embarrassed to tell all of you about this and I'm still laughing at myself at the stupid things I'm still capable of doing.

I did that ONCE, when I was 16. Not too big a deal though if you have power seats. Really sucked that one time though, It was a bench seat and I couldnt get the F--ker to latch.

You mean you're 6'1 and when the seat is all the way back on your 123, you can barely reach the pedals??? I'm 5'8, 5'10 with shoes, and with the seat all the way back in the 300D, I can reach the pedals fine. But, maybe since yours is a coupe, that has something to do with it.

It's possible that the coupes have more travel in the seats but I'm not sure. It did surprise me that the seat could go back as far as it did. Maybe it isn't as noticeable on an automatic. My coupe has a manual transmission I have to use the clutch and it requires full engagement to shift and that means pushing the pedal to the floor and that's were I noticed I was back too far.

I did make sure that there was no one around when I did that.

I am 6 foot even and can't drive my car with the seat all the way back...can't reach the pedals.

I adjust the seats in my cars all the time while I am driving, the only time I have had a problem is in the Subaru when I was adjusting the seat height, and it dropped down a little too much

My VW Bug (1969) likes to randomly adjust my seat back angle as I am driving.
I'll shift and my seat will go "POP" and ack now I am all bent backwards :-D

I am 6'6" and its not 'comfortable' to drive with my seat all the way back in the mercedes although I have no problems with pedals.

My favorite is when I was in the Fred Meyers parking lot with some friends and put my seat all the way forward, up, and whatnot and was driving with my head sticking out the sunroof around the parking lot (very low speeds )

I usually have the seat about 2-3 inches from the rear stop and the rest is all the way down becuase my head likes to bump the roof if I use good posture.
YOu should bring that coupe to the meet..it sounds nifty

You know, sometimes, if I adjust the seat all the way back, and I brake hard and come to a complete stop, the seat moves foward a little bit and you can hear it click into position.

Very dangerous.

If you have the manual adjustment type seat, ALWAYS rock the seat forward/backward to make sure it is latched into position.

It's bad enough in a car.

There are many reports of people dying in private aircraft because their seats went all the way back on takeoff. They instinctively pull back on the yoke and stall the plane and crash.

My old Chevy had a bench seat and I did that one time with my 80 year old grandfather next to me - I was 16. We were going about 30 mph, I hit the lever and the seat went back then I panicked and the seat flew forward as I stepped on the brake. Didn't use seat belts in those days... Well gramps and I were fine, but he had a serious talk with my dad before he would ride with me again... something like "that damned kid almost killed us..." For some reason I sort of chuckle about it now.
