Oil filter housing

When I did my last oil change and pulled of the oil filter housing cap, I notice that the pin size hole on the shaft was clogged. I tried blowing through the bottom but no oil (or air) would come through the hole near the top.

Do I need to get a replacement cap or is something I don't need to be worried about?

Scott98,

The stem has a one way check valve in it and will not flow in the direction you tried to force air. You have to try the other way.

Unless you have done something unusual, I have yet to find one of these clogged. They get oil flow from the bypass filter which is much cleaner than the oil going through the main flow area.

So, try getting air or oil to flow in the hole in the side of the stem and out the bottom to see if the passage is, indeed, clogged. Good luck, Jim

I wonder if there is something wrong with the check valve because in the past, I would blow through the bottom and see oil coming out of the side hole at the top?

Ok now I'm confused, you should not be able to blow air through the bottom hole? During my last oil change I used the air compressor to shoot air into the bottom hole, I shot myself with oil from the top hole.

I wish I had an air compressor. I use the low tech method of blowing through it with my mouth.

I just have a little cheap one from Home Depo. But it is the best most usefull tool I have, I would not be without one now. I can run impact guns, air grinders ect. Not to mention inflating tires is about as simple as it gets.
