I bought my car from a friend in New Mexico, just outside of El Paso. We hadn't seen them for a number of years so they decided they would deliver it to us in Alaska.
The same car has made numerious trips up and down the Alaskan Highway.

We've made the same trip in two other MB's, a '79 450sl and a c220. Although the 450 got the most stares, the 300d was the most comfortable.

Nonstop from Albuquerque to Detroit, about 1600 miles.

Driving a 68 200D.

Bootleging 20 cases of Coors.

(I was a lot younger then).

Wow! Let me say this shocked me! I drive in Dallas traffic 3-5 days a week and I can safely say that I can count on one hand the number of people I have seen pulled over in Dallas in the last 5 years!

As for trips, I would have to say my record in the Benz is only at 2,000 mi. from Ft. Worth to Bransom MO and back. I need to get the drivers seat base fixed before I push it any further.

I bought my MB 300D with 270K miles on it. Changed the oil, filters, did a full lube and thorough check, bought new rubber for all for corners and 3 days later I drove it 1200 miles from Battle Ground Wa to Phoenix AZ. I tell you that is the way to bond with a car. Spend two 8 hour days in it listening to every clack, nail, and purr as it sails down the hiway.

So what do you do when it's so cold out your fuel gels? Smear some on toast and have another cup of coffee until it warms up outside.

Just put a little over 2700 miles on my 85 300CD. Left Savannah and made stops in Atlanta, Alabama , New Orleans, and a few other places on my way to San Antonio. Spent a couple days there then drove back on I-10 until I took an hour nap at a rest stop by Tallahasee. After that, I drove on to Jacksonville and back up 95 to home. That was a long ride home.

Coast to Coast

Las Week I bought a 1992 300SD 275K miles from East Coast. Drove home to California . 5 days taking it easy, about 3500 miles . Adding one quart of oil during the trip.

Car battery went bad in the beginning. Had to jump start. The seller said it's because of short trips he made to store. Didn't have any problems on the trip . Back home now, battery is currently dead (I made short trips to the malls etc.). Tomorrow, I'll take out the battery and bring to Battery dealer to swap. Also, the Alternator light stays on after starting the car, only when I step on the pedal to start driving, that it would go off. I wonder if the Alternator might be the culprit.
