What is the most miles you drove your MB on a single trip? Anyone done a Maine to California and back kind of thing?

I am still recovering from a trip from No. Cal to E. Texas and back in the '85 300TD. 3900 miles rt.
FWIW, I couldn't have done it without a good working cruise control. I remove my shoes and wear slippers or sandals to let my feet rest most of the distance.
Fortunately I restuffed the seats and replaced them with new (W126) spring bases last year, O/W I'd have an even worse butt ache.

Most miles 1981 300SD

Just got back from the break-in trip of our new (to us) 1981 300SD.

Purchased the car a month a go with 97,000 miles. Had the front suspension rebuilt and did or had done the usual maintenance (filters, oil, valves, etc.).

Added H-4 Hella's--great decision.

Drove from Austin, TX to Grand Canyon, AZ to Palm Desert, CA back to Austin.

75-85 the whole way.

3400 miles

25.5 MPG

First time back in a Turbo 617 in ten years--good to be back.

Haven't had the SD too long, but I did do a couple of long trips in it already. One 12 hour stint from GA to NJ, about 700 miles. Did another in December, from NJ to OH and back in 14 hours, about 900 miles. (I don't want to do anymore "hell runs" like that for quite a while!) I put 400 miles a week on her as well as she is my daily driver.

When we bought my car we drove from Harrisburg, PA (its old home) to Grand Rapids, MI (my home).....which was about 675 miles.....I've never really gone on any real long trips in it yet, all have been between 150-400 miles at most, and all around Michigan. However, me and my friend are going to go on a roadtrip or two this summer, one place is probably going to be DC....to see the capital. That'd be a 690 mile trip from here......I'd also like to head out to Montana....and might go to Niagra Falls too.....lots of travel coming up for the diesels My cruise....is....iffy...it does whatever it wants. The cruise on the 83 holds rock solid forever......I do ok pressing the pedal though, but I do intend to take out my cruise amp and resolder everything soon....

My 300CD and I go on 400-450 mile trips once a month. Occasionally we'll make that trip twice in a month.

Gotta love getting paid 37.5 cents a mile and running on WVO....

Bought the car in BC and drove it back to Ontario. Total trip distance approximately 5,500 km. Didn't go the straightest possible way because I wanted to see some extra sights, and stayed in Canada the whole way. If I had to do it again I would cut down through the praries into the US and go south of Lake Superior. The north side is a pretty boring drive... At the time the car had just over 60,000 km on it, so I ended up putting almost 10% of it's total distance on it in a week or so!

This past year we went from AL to OK and back on one trip. That was mostly sightseeing and we did a lot of sidetrips. We went from AL to WY and back on another trip and from AL to ME, NH, and VT on another trip. We hit the blue ridge parkway and skyline drive some on that one.

Over the past year Ive tended to average about 1600 miles a month. Now that shes going into pleasure car mode rather than daily car that sum has reduced sustantially. The longest trip shes been on has been from SF to San Diego + Palm Springs. Done that trip 2 times. I think the round trip total mileage is somewhere around 1000- 1200 miles, depends on where I go while on thhe trip.

longest run

in the Summer of '03 myself and three of my friends did a road trip down from CT to TN in my '83 300D and no AC. We left at 4pm Friday arrived in TN at 6am Saturday wedding was at 4pm and we were back on the road by 7am Sunday morning. I think we go home in by about 9pm. Only 2 of us drove on the trip. what a blast we had so much fun on that trip. Going through NJ the highwas so bad that we decided to get off and try to go a back way for a few miles. Do you know how bad NJ SMELLS? it was 90 degrees out, no AC and we had to put the windows up because it smelled so bad. I guess that why NJ is known as the arm pit of America.

Thanks,

Brings up a good question... How far did you drive to buy your car?

I rode in a train for 600 miles to buy my car in Dallas, and then drove it back.

Then I changed my oil and took a 2000mi round trip to CO and back, and at the end of this month, I'll be going to the biodiesel conference in NC, which will be about 1600mi round trip. I only drive 5 miles to work, so I've gotta get my miles up somehow.

peace,
sam

I am on the low end, about 2,000km but almost all of it on B100 biodiesel that I made myself. Nice long holiday trip, giving the folks behind me a subconscious urge to eat Chinese food, ha!
