It depends on the bus. My Thomas bus is literally at the engines redline fuel cutoff at 65. The only way I'll be fixing this is a taller diff.

funny thing

i once was making a trip to the east coast solo about 15 years ago. i was dressed casually for travel in a flannel shirt and jeans. i was driving my bmw bavaria (this was right before my second benz era). i stopped in a small mom and pop truck stop in pennsylvania on a 2 lane that i took for a while to break up the boredom of the interstate for lunch. started up a nice conversation with a fellow who must have been a trucker. after a few minutes of very normal friendly conversation he asked me what kind of truck i was driving. i said i was driving a car. and he just turned away and never said another word to me. just odd. probably not worth telling that story...oh well.

I just flash them 2 blinks with my high beams. If it is clear, I pass.

The only time I flash more than 2 times is if I just passed a pig in the road then I stay way back so they don't think I want to pass and flash at cars and trucks for the next 3 or so miles so they slow down and don't get busted to feed the revenue pigs. Actually, I have gotten many waves from drivers on the other side, especially truckers for warning them of the pigs so I assume they are grateful.

really

yes, i was very much surprised to see that term used for cops, also. it was, and still is, remarkably immature. what does the poster of that message do for a living, does he risk his life for the public good, put his honor and integrity on the line to keep the individual's health and safety intact, or the health and safety of society at large, in any civilian or professional way? can he explain why he uses the disparaging terms? perhaps there is a reason? do we *really* want to know?

just curious.

When the majority of those I have encountered do like what you say, I'll call them something else. When they can the attitude that "I have a badge and a gun and I can do what I please", I'll call them different. When they do their job and no more and not tell you "If I wanted to, I can .......", I'll give them the respect they deserve. BTW, there were many fine upstanding officers that also did not show up in LA. Did you figure that into your equation when you said they put their life on the line for XYZ? I don't give a rip about what the intentions of the police force were when they were forming up. I care about what I see when I encounter them doing their job. Or in several cases, not doing their job. Tell me for example about the cop sitting under the shade of a gas station while someone ran a blinking red light when mine was yellow because it was late at night and it was raining and he probably didn't want to get his uniform wet. I don't have a problem with them writing me tickets. Write the ticket, ask if I have any questions and if not STFU. Don't tell me how you can take me in, do drug tests, etc, etc. When I see them FOR THE MOST PART live up to the ideals, I will accord them differently. At this time, they are revenue machines that do some work because they have to.

But maybe you all are right. I should not insult the pigs by calling cops that.

I'm trying to picture this, when you pass the cop, are you on a two lane highway or on a divided four lane highway? Then later, you say you don't pass the cop, I'm kinda confused here.

On the interstate or anywheres they sit and try gather revenue. Sometimes they sit in the devided area between the 2 lanes. When I pass their position I signal drivers on the other side to slow down so as not to add to the local coffers.

I like SOME of the things that Bush does. Not all, some. If he got busted for Coke, I could care less as long as it was a fair bust, they did their jobs, no more, no less. Like I said, I have NEVER griped for getting a ticket because I was doing 50 in a skool zone or because I snorted Coke or murdered someone. I just don't care for their attitude. Take last week when I had a busted taillight. WTF. It was Sat, the dealership is not open on Sat night when it happened. Where was I going to get a taillight assembly on a Sat night. You want to write me a ticket? Go for it if it helps you get a hard on for the wife. Leave me alone. Don't threaten to get the dogs to sniff my vehicle looking for drugs when you have NO probable cause. All my answers were "Yes, Sir" and "No Sir". Nothing else that would indicate I was hiding something. I took your sobriety test and passed. There was NO alcohol in plain sight. There was nothing in the trunk and you want me to submit to a search or having dogs run thru my vehicle? Go find yourself a warrant and we'll talk.

I called them pigs because it is a recognized term but mainly because I was too lazy when it comes to them to call them "Richard"heads. Pigs is 4 characters and the other is 9. I am not sure what the mature thing to do would be in my case. I suppose that since the majority of the "fine upstanding lawmen/women" I encountered were composed of an attitude with a gun strapped to it's side and a badge pinned on, I should say that the next one will be better and so on? Sorry, if 4 out of 5 of the encounters I get are nasty, that is what I believe the group to be.

Here is another one that burns me up. I reported stuff stolen. Attitude with a badge and gun comes, seems barely interested but I need him to write it up so I can claim insurance. Told him that they took my cell phone and made a call with it. Left it at that and claimed insurance. Asked about what happened and they said nothing can be done. Just claim insurance. I had to tell them again that someone stole my cell phone, I checked the number they dialed and the address of the person they called for 5 mins before they valiantly went and arrested the said person. Give me the badge and gun and I will go arrest him since you are too lazy to do the legwork.

Just so it is not all bashing, they are somewhat decent at writing the reports so I can file insurance and 2 times in the last 10 years, they have been professional and did their job. Rest of the time, I see a blue dressed pile of attitude step out of the vehicle. I don't care if you like me. I have worked in jobs that required customer service. I don't like black people. If a black man walks up and asks a question, I put my dislike for him aside and do the best job I know how. Same with white people, red people, green people. No one gets better service because I like them or whatever. No one gets worse service because they are Chinese and I hate Chinese goods. When I am on the clock, my personal likes and dislikes are IRRELAVANT.

OK. The only time I gave someone better service was on my own time. She couldn't come to the store because she didn't have a car and she lived in a Sorority house. I told her that I could fix it for her but that would be an after work thing or she could bring it in. Needless to say, the house wasn't having scantily clad women running around engaging in pillow fights.

I don't like truckers because they never honk when I ask them to.

that and they wear ball caps all of the time.

Yea! you know I used to be ticked about that too. Then I taught my 7 year old stepson how to do the "honk" thing and I'll be damned, they honked at him! I conluded that you either have to be a kid or a hot chick for it to work nowadays...
