Sounds like maybe someone had that injector out and put it back without a new heatshield.......................

About all you can do is pull the injector, install new heatshield(cheap) and re-torque. Time to buy a torque wrench!

Cool, yes, but I don't really trust them. Call me old fashioned..
You might try checking the torque on that injector, it could be a little loose.
That might also tie in with your wonky idle.

Course', if your going to pull one out, you may as well pull them all..
And have them rebuilt..
With nozzles NOT made in france or where the hell ever all the bad one's are from..

Don't ya love it?

How do I do it?

I have never pulled an injector before. THat makes me a little nervous. How do I do it?

Does the heat shield cause leakage? My rough idle cleared up when I replaced the rack dampener bolt and adjusted.

Injector comes out like a big bolt, unscrews. Need large half inch drive socket, someone else will remember what mm size it is..

Heat shield are single use items...............try and use them twice and the WILL leak.

Lucky they are cheap......

You need a 27mm deep socket - with 54mm or more of inside depth. I bought a great one locally for about $8. This is also the perfect socket for turning over the engine by hand with the crank pulley bolt. The heatshields have 2 different ID's, so get one of each (they are really cheap) so you have the correct one when you change it.

Where did you find the socket?

Pete, where did you find that socket?

By the way - before I do something stupid on an injector, you loosen it by turning it counter clockwise - correct?

I am supposing that I unhook the metal injector line and get it out of the way, then install the 27mm socket and turn counter clockwise until injector backs out completely? Then remove the heat sheild and then install new one and reverse process. How much is the proper torque to tighten the injector back into place?
