I have an '85 and noticed this car's air filter housing is located at the front of the engine compartment unlike mine which is on top of the turbo. I wonder why it's different?

I noticed the same thing. Is this a CA model with trap oxidizer?

TX76513 01-21-2005 10:06 AM

Other side of the earth from me :( Rickg will have to snatch that up!

Astroman 01-21-2005 10:44 AM

Yes, California models have the air filters in different locations, as well as different (pushed up) intake and exhaust manifolds, all to accomodate the trap oxydizer underneath.
This is definitely a CA model
If you've ever replaced your air filter (like you should have already) you'll notice that the CA version is absurdly expensive...

THats the first time I saw an interior that color......but I like it...........

Bet the reserve is in the stratosphere.........

I noticed in the serviced records that oil was changed at 27K in 1989...so nobody drove the car in the last 16 years or the mileage is not accurate...is exempt anyway,I would rather have it with 136k then not driven for 16 years, that brings a ton a problems after first 100 miles on hwy at 80 mph.

OK, time to put up or shut up.

I'll say $9,500.

Anybody else???

This car is nearly identical to the car I own except for the color of the interior. What an ugly color! I'm glad I have the quartz interior in mine. I'm tempted to bid on the car otherwise since its in my neck of the woods. It might be worthwhile for me to look at it since Tacoma is about 2 hours from where I live. I bet it still has the original oxidizing catalyst for which I have an extra one with about the same miles as this car has. Yeah the CA version has it quirks along with expensive air filters (best deal I got was $25).
Gotta talk to my wife about this one... :(

Nice car..if those miles are correct....... then $8,800.

If I had the money, I would buy it...

My 1985 300CD looks exactly like these pictures under the hood. Confirming that my baby is a CA model made me trap oxidizer nervous, so I called 1-800-FOR-MERC. They were tickled to tell me that the recall has been performed, and to arrange a high-milage form to be sent out. I'm certain that they can check for this car as well.

The perfect car, in perfect condition, with perfect support. I feel guilty. :D

Is that what cross country shipping is going for these days? Dang.........!

TX76513 01-21-2005 03:13 PM

Yes for reasonably quick service (4 - 7 days) or if I give them a 21 day window (do when you can) $775.

Still like that car - don't know if I would go into the $9's (someone may).
Probably have to touch it or have someone touch it for a serious bid :bulb:
