fuel filter gaskets
I have a new main fuel filter from Mann that includeds 2 small gaskets. Can anyone tell me where they go. The bolt holding the filter to the housing looks like it has a gasket. Is this correct? What about the other one, it looks much smaller. Thanks again for any input.

The bolt holding the main fuel filter, that has 2 O-Rings. Pre filter has a big O-Ring, usually those pre filters dont come with o-ring, you have to buy it separate.

I should have said O-rings not gaskets. Yes I received two small O-rings with the main filter from Mann. However the bolt I removed, holding the filter to the housing, only has one O-ring and its located close to the top of the bolt head. I think I see a spot, just above the threads, where a second O-ring could be placed. Does this sound correct. Thanks agin for your helpful insight Kinghais.

Ok almost there...what is the best way to remove the small black cap like fitting, that sits on top of the prefilter housing. It looks like this cap connects to a clear plastic fuel line. I was able to remove the pre-filter from the housing while keeping it connected to this cap and fuel line. Figuring out how to remove the cap and install the new pre-filter seems tricky. Any further insight? Thanks a million.

Success
Just a little bit of elbow grease and a set of pliers and I was able to pull it out. Thanks again.
Followed lots advise here and got the car to start with persistant cranking and pre filling the main fuel filter. |

Thank you crmont! I've been used to the ease of doing a purge on a W124. Your setup was actually easier and I happened to have the old fuel lines left over from a previous fuel line replacement. The one from the filter to the shut off happened to bend the right way.
I tried and failed horribly earlier today because I did not have the right sized hose to make the connections at the firewall. Lets just say it was a frustrating messy failure. Purge done and quieter engine now. Thanks.

Well the product does work. I can attest first hand. It won't fix a broken injector but it sure can clear a fouled nozzle quite nicely. I have no evidence other than the movie I posted years ago. Since then I had white smoke when holding rpm at 2500. I did the purge and it completely cleared up the problem. It also fixed #2 glow plug! Jk it didn't do that.
