How long do these things last before the Heating Element dies? I pulled one of my 85 300D only to find out it wasnt working because of Tarnish, after cleaning it I would like to put in another engine..Whats the Ohms for a resistance check?

the original blockheater in my 80 300sd is still strong.and it gets used all winter as i have a preference for fast warmup

My functional, but stock, block heater has 42 ohms of resistance, which is 342 Watts, and about 2.85 amps, which sounds about right to me.

Does anyone know how long you can keep the block heater plugged in. Days, weeks months while not using the car in cold weather?

I don't see any reason why you couldn't leave it plugged in all of the time. Except that it would be a waste, 2-3 hours is all it needs to work. But the electric company will sure love you!

Mine quit three weeks ago.

when the one in blondie quit. but it was before i got it,

reds functions well for the second week in a row.4.25 hrs work. charged 3.5. about 275$.

the zerostart in line works well in blondie when i have had it on. since the heater fan quit(the fuse was burned and shorted.) i won't drive in the cold.
