85 300D glow plug socket size?
does anyone know the exact size wrench/socket required to remove and install glow plugs? it's at least 17, i know that because 16 wouldn't fit.

you sure thats the glow plugs youre trying to take out?
the glow plugs are down on the drivers side of the block, and there are two sizes of wrenches you need to pull them....one 8mm to take the nut off that holds the wire on, and a 12mm to pull the plug itself |
look further down the side of the block, under all the brass lines that run to the injectors...youll see wires connected to it, those are your glow plugs....theres a little(8mm) nut holding the wire on, and then once you get that off, take a 12mm and pull the plug itself out the side of the engine block...
also, id suggest going down to Sears and getting the ratcheting box-end wrenches....they work wonders when youre trying to get your hands down in there around those injector lines |
i'm pretty positive that i'm looking at the glow plug...it's under the metal fuel lines and there are five of them. i looked at the new glow plugs, and they look the same as the ones in my car. there isn't a nut holding the wire on either...it just snaps into place.

those arent glow plugs...look to either side of them....THOSE are glow plugs....the wires dont snap on, they are held on with nuts

Great answer 85drtysthbenz,
I would like to contribute stuff like that as well. can you tell us how to add graphics to pics? |
Jacrouch,
On mine, the larger "plugs" are temp. senders. However, there are only a couple of them. What model/engine are you talking about? You need to go to "User CP" and update your signature to include the year and model of your vehicle to help answer the questions. ;) |
