Don't Let your kids put Their back packs on the Rear Package Shelf

One (or both) kids put their backpacks (or pencil case) on the rear shelf. If the case comes apart, the pencils can roll back and UNDER the rear parcel shelf. This is an extremely annoying sound, pencils rolling around on top of the metal support.

I fished two out this weekend by removing the drivers side speaker. The passenger side has one rolling around too.

The noise isn't loud BUT very bothersome.

Like we have time to deal with this.

This can also be unsafe, if you have to slam on the brakes, the back packs will fly forward and could cause serious head trauma or even death. My mom did some field work with a lady who was involved in an accident, and stuff hit her in the head. Since then my mom has been preaching to me the importance of keeping things somewhat secure so it won't cause a head trauma.

I agree heartily! If you have ever been first-on-the-scene of an accident, it will shock you to see what can become a projectile.

(Maybe that is why I have always heard of "the rear hat shelf")That is about the only thing that should be placed there.

A strong vaccum cleaner, with a "narrow" attachment will usually suck it out.

maybe that's why they put the first aid kit back there - so the contents will fly to you to the front when and where you need them ...
