Are you referring to the Greek taxi driver? If this is the one, I thought they rotated 4 rebuild engines 11 times or something of that nature.

I'm sure that thing is good for 1 million miles, the engine just doesn't know that

Exclamation

Something is terribly wrong with that ad-

the driver neglected to note that ...."anyone who's familiar with these cars knows that 750,000 is just getting broken in!"...

Actually, that car is very near my brother's house. If it could be had for a couple hundred bucks it might be fun for bragging rights if the odometer has actaully worked all along! 240 engines seem plentiful enough. I emailed for pictures if the rust... that's the biggest issue for me.

Yikes, now other Mercedes sellers on eBay will change their blurbs to say "the legendary Mercedes diesels are known to run for 750,000 miles... "

Seller also has a 300D listed, lots of rust. But the engine runs, I have an idea, make them an offer for both and swap the 5-cyl engine over to the 240D and drive the 240D home?

I saw that too... problem is, I have no place to do a swap over there. My brother's garage is barely big enough for his Mustang, which hibernates all winter. Oh well.

I don't need another car at this point anyway. Unless the rust is truly superficial, and it stays really cheap, I will stay away I think. The lure of a manual tranny MB diesel project is indeed great, though!
