GRRRR......somebody smacked my Benz..

Some A-hole dented my front drivers side fender in a parking lot. I left my car at my fathers business to borrow a truck. Somebody hit it. Even had it parked all alone, away from the front door. No paint transfer, so I won't be able to tell who did it. I know when it happened, but nobody left a note. I feel like kicking somebodies rear end.

I'm so angry.... This car looked so sweet, and now it's got a baseball sized dent right on the curved part of the fender.

Any suggestions for getting it fixed without breaking the bank?

Lukejt

I'd be furious too if anyone failed to leave a note with info how to contact them or their their ins co.
Reminds me of a story. A good friend and indy shop owner saw someone back into a parked car, I believe it was a MB. He said the driver got out and wrote something on a piece of paper, put it under the windshield and left. Being curious, he walked over to see what it said. It said something like "Hi, I just wanted to let you know I bumped your car but I'm not going to leave anything other than this. Ha Ha" He said he hadn't made a note of the guy's license number (too bad!) because he thought they were being honest.

If your dent isn't on a flat portion of the fender or door panel, it probably can't be popped out. Sounds like it might easily run over $500 to fix it right.

I just had a 123 hood replaced under insurance. Some A_Hole jumped up on the hood to remove the hood star, kids probably. Smushed in real good. The cost to repair it consisted of:
Replace hood, remove and replace the cowling vents, rope back the windshield seal before painting (no masking here) new hood pad and a new hood star. The total came to $2200 with a used hood no less! The ins co would have totalled the car if they had to pay for a new hood. The paint shop had to spend hours dealing with a used hood, the place they bought it from delivered a W126 hood the first time then its replacement was dented so it took them half a day of messing with it to get that straight. PITA. Still didn't have it fit properly, its higher than the level of the cowling and forward about 0.2 inches, needs to be refit. Dealing with any body work can be a real pain if you want it done right

Now the car has been almost completely repainted. All four fenders and doors were repainted by the same shop after vandals keyed it last year (maybe the Bush bumper sticker invited that incident?) All I need now is to repaint the top and the trunk lid and it will be looking new.

If it's just poped in with no crease, you may be able to pop it out (a glass suction cup works wonders). If it's creased, then body work is needed. Hopefully the guilty party will come foward.

Something similar happened to me at the Home Depot parking lot...i was dumb enough to park next to other cars, in a Home Depot no less. I dunno what happened, maybe something dropped from someone's truck, but i came back to my car and noticed some new, small dents on the rear driver side. I wasn't TOO upset since there were already dents there from when we bought the car.

I'll have to look up some of those pop a dent shops in the Baltimore area. Last time I went to a body shop they (2 different shops) wanted $800 to pull a tiny dent from my service van. I'd fix the MB if they keep it under $250.

I had a pretty funny "note on the windshield" story:
I was going to the airport to pick my buddy up from overseas in my "new" '69 Continental a few years ago and got most of the way into a space (hard to park that boat) and someone was yelling that my car was on fire (long story about an PS leak and this was the first actual fire). Anyway, I put it out, called a tow truck (no damage, but I wasn't starting it again) and retrieved my friend from the airport. When I got back, there was an explitive filled note about how rude I was to park my car so close to his and so forth. He had tried to dent the car w/ his door (new paint chips) but the old girl was too tough! Then he pulled back up and started yelling about how I upset his wife and kid (who looked more afraid of him), and he came at me and "cooled" his feet my partially used extinguiser. He went to get security, but never came back. Prob some much of an A-hole that they just told him to piss off. What a day!
