When will someone sponsor a 240D race?

Anyone interested? Where are our true leaders out there? I am quite serious about this as I think a lot of people would be interested. The 240D would have to be stock. The course could either be at a Track, but maybe motorcross would be more fun, say across the Rockies or something, Extra points based on the condition of the car, the more mint, the more points. Stationwagons and automatics get a handicap. This would make a great family event. (uhh maybe I had one beer too many at lunch..)

Take your car to the drag strip on a "street night" and see what it will do. I've been to the Friday night street shootouts at the local dragway here but have never had the gumption to take the car out on the track. I think I will actually do it this spring when they open up again. Maybe everyone will get a good laugh out of it. They have all kinds of cars out there.

If someone brings the snails, that will be a real race :P

I don't have the guts to bring a stock diesel MB to the drag strip. :D All those little Honda's would destroy it. But if their was say a super 603 sitting under the hood then I would go and try to hold in the evil grin. :D

I was watching a video on the net awhile back of an F250 or 350 with a highly modded Cummins in it. I think it pulled off a run in the 11sec range. Very cool the turbo sounded like a jet and their was tons of black smoke. I think someone in the crowd said something like "holy $$%^"

Here's a link to a Cummins powered dragster article. 161hp per liter :D So that means 3 liters is good for 483hp and 2.4 liters is 386.4hp...... 0 to rebuild in 8 seconds

For bracket racing, an auto 240D would be crazy. Dial in 25 seconds and people will think you are sandbagging it. As long as you can hit your dial-in and get a good reaction off the line, you'll win. A really slow car is very difficult to race in brackets. Been tempted to do it, but now with the 617.952, I bet my 1/4 time is down to 20 seconds. :P

I have seen some 240d's that were modified to accept larger exhaust valves and a T3 Turbo developing around 6 pounds of boost.

These cars can really surprise you...Bert

Anyone here play "42" with Dominoes ?
There is one version if you get a really bad hand where you declare " Nello"...
This means that you try NOT to win tricks... and your partner sits out that hand.

This is the thought which came to mind ...

There is a race track about 50 miles north of me called " Little River" .
It also has a place to camp during a weekend gathering....

I am sure that if a bunch of us showed up there and ' raced' our 240's or other Diesels .... these guys would think we were trying for the " slowest" award.... much like playing declaring Nello.

Randy and his tweaked four speed wagon would be an interesting baseline to establish for others.... and of course my 240 four speed would beat his wagon off the line...

this brings up an interesting question. Just how does one go about calibrating a calendar? :D

Peter4 01-27-2005 01:45 PM

The problem is finding a slow stopwatch. Otherwise it's entirely feasible.
